My dd is a 10 wk old baby at 59cm and 5.9kg.

Can I give her Calpol? She's got a bit of a blocked nose since 2 days and has started coughing yday night.

No fever or raised temp.

Just wondering as it's late where I am and I cannot get a doc on the phone. (Sorry am a paranoid first timer). Any advice?

calm down
she doesn't have flu
she doesn't need calpol if no temp
raise the end of her cot to help her nose
maybe a drop of olbas oil on the cot sheet will help too
also suck the snot out of her nose for her

Can I ask what makes you think she has Flu? I think it is quite unlikely to have Flu if she has no temperature. Sounds more like a cold?

Flu is quite bad so I am sure you would know about it if she had it.

You don't need a doctor.
She has a cold.
Do what Trinity said.
Olbas oil is fab or let her sleep propped up on you if she can't breath well lying down.

Sry, English not my first language. Yes, it's cold I mean. Not the Spanishe Grippe or anything.

Thank you Trinity, I will do that!

if she doesn't have a fever then it isn't flu

do what Trinity has suggested ....

TrinityRhino · 16/12/2008 10:52

Thanks a lot! Don't have olbas oil but I've rubbed the baby rub I put on her (given by pharmacist) on her sheet to inhale and will prop up her head now.

Many thanks!!

Hope she feels better soon, my daughter had a bad cold at the moment and it is hard. Just give some extra cuddles. I think Olbas isn't recommended until 3 months? Not 100% though, I will check for you in a bit

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 16/12/2008 11:03

Keep an eye on her cough though won't you? There is a lot of bronchiolitis around at the minute.

Alexa808 · 16/12/2008 11:04

Thank you Chloe! All the best to your dd, too. It will be a LOOOONG night

The pharmacist should also be also to give you saline nasal drops. You can then put one drop in each nostril just before feeding and this usually clears the nose enough for them to feed.

Alexa808 · 16/12/2008 11:08

Thanks Daisy. I will. Here in Singapore, too. The humid climate just calls for stuff to hang around

I used to chop up an onion and leave it by their beds when they were little and snotty, does help but smells rank in the morning.

stressedsanta · 16/12/2008 12:30

my ds had a cold every month of his life until recently-no joke
hoping he gets it all when he's young and be really strong when he's older.i hope
