Ds has chicken pox but no temp or other ill affects. WHat is the general policy re nursery? His spots first appeared last Thursday night. It's his nursery xmas party tomorrow and he will be gutted to miss it but obv I have to think of the other children etc.

until all the spots scab over

You should phone the nursery and let them know that is why he is off as well. At my nursery they put a sign up to warn other parents that there has been a case.

how long does it normally take for the spots to scab over? In my day they had chiken pox parties so that all the kids would get it at the same time!

around a week, maybe a little less.

dd1 was only off dchool for 4 days when she had chicken pox

So it looks like he will not be able to attend the xmas party tomorrow but could go on Friday when 'Father Christmas' is making an appearance?

MY ds has it and have a 16 week old baby - how long after first child get it did second?

Well Kathryn I think you may have got lucky - DS2 had a rash for a few days which docs said was just a 'viral reaction', then oe spot appeared, then by the next morning he had a few more, that afternoon DS1 had a couple of spots (but he didn't have any prior rash - and still doesn't) but by the next day DS2 was COVERED - poor lamb - they have now startedto blister and some are peeling - he looks awful - but DS1 still only has a few spots - I would say about a 10th of what DS2 has.
