She has 2 big bumps on the back of her head. She seems okay now after a good cry, but what should I look out for to make sure she ia okay?

DD2 (nearly 12 months) did this last week but backwards onto wooden floor boards - don't you feel awful!

We put ice pack on and watched for excessive sleepiness and eyes going stare-ey. Think you watch for sickness too as sign of concussion.

If you're at all worried I'd ring NHS direct - I'm sure she'll be fine, they're tougher than you think at this age.

I do feel awful, we have only just removed the fire guard, we dont have a fire, but it was there to stop this from happening. DD has been up and about walking since 8mo so she is now really steady on her feet. She went down like a tree straight onto the edge of the hearth

I would call NHS Direct - when DD (2 years) banged her head (on slate) I wasn't sure if it was OK to giver her Calpol.

The nurse went through various criteria, asked me to look at head, ears etc.

I know some people say that NHS Direct just tell people to go to A & E, but that has wasn't my experience.

I've called NHS direct, I have always had good advice from them. It's nice to know that at 2 in the morning if I have any problems with DD there is someone I can call.

They said to put a cold compress on her head and give her some calpol, and to monitor her when she is sleeping to make sure she is rousable and that if she is sick more that twice to call them back.
They asked me to check for blood or clear fluid from her ears and to keep an eye on her movements and her eyes.

Thanks for your advice.
