dd2 was admitted on saturday with pneumonia, we got home late yesterday afternoon. She had a had time of it, was on steriods and AB. She also couldnt keep her oxegen levels up so had tubes in her nose till tuesday. She has been sent home on AB and inhalers. She was sick twice last night and needed her inhaler 4 times. Shes sleeping loads which i know is good for her getting over this, but how long should she be this weak for??
Shes 15months by the way.
TIA

My son had pneumonia at 11 months. He recovered quickly--within a couple of days of being on the ABs he was noticeably better. But then caught bronchiolitis about three weeks later. He recovered within about four days from this.

The sleeping is good. Are you going to see the GP to ask him to check her over?

My youngest son has had pneumonia three times, (he has a comprimised immune system) and it did take quite a while to fully recover.

Although her oxygen levels are up she may be working a little hard still to maintain them so she will be tired.

Also the AB's always made him quite sicky.

Hope she is soon on the mend. Don't be surprised though if she is off her food for a while, the steroids can alter the taste of things.

thanks, all good to know. TBH she is rarely eating anything at all but is still BF so i know she gets what she needs. Poor hun can only stay awake for 2 hours before she is rubbing her eyes and laying on the floor

She's doing what her body needs to do to get well again.

My DS who is 9 months old had pneumonia 2 weeks ago. Like abraid's DS, he got over the pneumonia quite fast, but has immediately gone down with bronchiolitis for the second time. He is still coughing and wheezing and not quite himself two weeks later.

lisad123 · 11/12/2008 20:35

she had bronchiolitis about 6 weeks ago, so hoping it doesnt come back
she keeps being sick, so holding off food atm.

Interesting and annoying how the bronchiolitis seems to follow the pneumonia. But my son really was fine within three weeks--in fact, because it was Christmas we have fond memories of him stuffing himself with turkey and roast potatoes at lunch.

So chins up.

strawberrycornetto · 11/12/2008 21:34

I would be so happy if he's better and tucking into a Christmas lunch in two weeks .

abraid · 14/12/2008 15:00

How are the post-pneumonia children now? Hope they're doing better.

Boco · 14/12/2008 16:26

My dd2 is on her 4th attack - the last three all confirmed as pneumonia by x-ray, this time we've not been admitted but it seems the same and she's on antibiotics and steroids. I've no idea why she keeps getting it.

The drugs seem to make her very sick and she goes off her food each time so getting very skinny and pale.

strawberrycornetto · 14/12/2008 20:42

Boco, how far apart were the attacks? How old is your DD? My DS is still really really chesty but I was told they cannot re-xray for 6 weeks because even if he is better it will still not have cleared from the xray. I think we will be back on antibiotics when we go back to the doctor tomorrow, but I'd really like some idea about what's going on.

Boco · 14/12/2008 20:51

The first time she had it was the end of May beginning of June. She was admitted again at the end of September, third episode was end of November, and then last Wed was latest with only a couple of weeks between. I really don't know why, or why they're getting closer together.

She's 3, nearly 4.

strawberrycornetto · 14/12/2008 21:31

Ok, so that doesn't completely contradict with what I was told. Poor thing, she's had a rotten run, it must be really worrying for you, I really sympathise Have the doctors given you any idea why it is happening?

abraid · 14/12/2008 21:31

Homeopathy seemed to help my son pick up.

Boco · 14/12/2008 22:18

I tried homeopathy about a year ago and am a bit skeptical after being given literally dozens of remedies one after the other but that might just be this one homeopath.

Drs will do some testing on dd2 next - for immune disorders and cystic fibrosis apparently, but not until feb.

strawberrycornetto · 14/12/2008 22:30

My friend was recommending homeopathy to me, but I am also skeptical. I hope the testing on your DD is all ok. February is a long time to wait when you are worried.
