Anyone good at diagnosing spots/rashes??? And what do I do about taking to GP incase they are potentially infectious?

DD3 has a series of "spots" whcih don't look unlike chicken pox spots in the very early stage. But I am not convinced they are chicken pox because:

  1. she has had chicken pox (about 4-6weeks ago - albeit a mild case of obly 8-12 spots) - although I can't absolutely rule out chicken ox on this basis
  2. the spots are almost exclusively on her limbs (mostly around knees, groin and elbows - about 10-12 althogether)...I thought chicken posx tends to localise on the torso.
  3. The first ones were first noticed thurs/fri/sat and the new ones have only just appeared - I thought chicken pox was more rapid to spread
  4. the spots that first appeared have almost gone - and they didn't go through the crusty chicken pox stage. They just have a small scab in the middle. She does have 1 masty one on her "bits" which is really red and sore looking that has a pus filled centre which may need Abs...but it is flat not raised like chicken pox

But what are they? DTD2 had an identical spot on her upper thigh at the weekend too - and I thought they might be bites from fleas from our invisible cat as they both had them - but DTD2 has no more.

The only thing I can think to do is go to GP...but in light of recently threads regarding setting foot outside the door with potential chicken pox how do I tackle this?

Oh and there are signs up at nursery saying that they have had cases of chicken pox and measles. She has had her MMR

No idea what they might be.

If you need to take her to the doctors, phone ahead and they will set a wee room aside for her to wait in incase of immunocompromised patients- let's face it, there's a fair chance there may be one at a gp's surgery!

Could it be molluscum?? (I can't do links, but if you google it you should get pics- this is how I diagnosed it in my dd!)

DoNotsAntlers · 08/12/2008 19:39

I don't think so....I have looked at molluscum before...and it is not in clusters..she has 2 on 1 leg. 1 behind her other knee...1 on her bits, 1 on the top of her thigh, 1 inside 1 elbox. One on her other lower arm. One about 2" above her nipple and 1 about 1" above her hip/pelvis...

Maybe impetigo? It can come up as small spots sometimes. Though the fact that some are going...? I'd explain it to the receptionist when you make an appt.

Just read this with interest - dd also has random spots on limbs, one on face (also at first thought one was a flea bite). She also developed a purple blotchy rash on her chest and tummy that caused the GP to send us to hospital and the peadiatrician to check with the registrar before they decided it was a very unusual viral rash. Seems there are some odd viral rash things going about...

The rashes don't look as big as the pics that come up for impetigo on google images.
