Is this amount of sleep normal? 2.4-year-old

Ds (2.4) has started sleeping an awful lot lately. The last two weeks or so he's been to bed at 7pm and I've had to go and wake him at 9am. And just now he's asked to go to bed for his lunchtime nap (12.30). I regularly have to wake him up after 3 hours.

When awake he is mostly very active and spirited, doesn't seem ill or drowsy when he's up. Yesterday however he spent most of the morning asking to go back to bed (though he didn't actually seem tired until lunchtime, and was running around madly, singing etc.
He is eating reasonably normally, if a bit picky.

Is this something I should be worrying about? The only other thing I've noticed lately is that sometimes the middle of his bottom lip has a bluish tinge to it, seems to happen fairly randomly.

TIA

I am so .

Seriously though I think he is going through a massive growth spurt. I was very much like this as a child I was told. If he is perky and well I wouldn't worry at all - sleep is v healthy.

I think that 17 hours of sleep is a huge amount for a 2.4 year old, I would go to see your gp asap. The tinge would worry me too.

my 4.5 year old dd goes to bed at 6 every night and sleeps till 8. My DS 2.4 only sleeps for 10 hours including naps. I think they are all different. You might want to check the blue tinge out though.

Sounds an incredible amount of sleep. I'd check it out for peace of mind.

I think that sounds like a lot of sleep. Sorry.

OK thanks, I am going to ring our GP for advice.
