His right eye is fine, 2 days ago his eye looked a bit red but not too red and this morning he had a lot of sleep in his eye. Every 20 mins or so there is a yellowish gunk coming from the inside corner of his eye...any ideas? chemists are closed now what can I do?

Possible infection? How old is he?If you are still bf you can put some breastmilk onto eye,it has antimicrobial properties.Worked with dd.Otherwise a trip to docs in the morning.

TheMuppetsChristmasMuggle · 07/12/2008 19:20

sounds like what my DD has (3.8yrs) i think she may have conjunctivitus, but has been poorly with a cold over the past week, so just waiting till morning. seems it will be a trip to the docs for both me and DD in the morning.

Clean with cooled boiled water and some cotton wool - make sure you keep your hands very clean, as it's very infectious. You can get chloramphenicol prescribed by your pharmacist if you have the minor ailments scheme thing.

he is 14m old stopped bf ages ago. He has had a runny nose on and off for weeks now but because in himself he has been fine i have not been worried. I have given him calcold for his runny nose though.

TLE i know what you mean.
Every Dec of DD life she has been ill, this one seems no different, just hope it doesn't result in a hospital visit

Malkuth · 07/12/2008 20:31

DD2 had this recently so I took her to the GP as I assumed it was conjunctivitis. Turns out that when kids get colds some of them also get eye "snot". I was given drops but told to wait overnight as her eye wasn't very pink (conjunctivitis is pink eye in the States). If it was gunky and stuck a bit in the morning it would probably be conjunctivitis. If not then just part of the cold, which is what it turned out to be. Hope that makes sense!

TheMuppetsChristmasMuggle · 07/12/2008 20:37

yeah it does, thats what i'm hoping for tbh. DD doesn't do well in the cold weather, she has inner ear problems, acute asthma, which always comes with a chest infection or worse - shes had bronchitus before, which resulted in hospital trip

puppie · 08/12/2008 14:49

My DS has just had this. Was conjuntivitus. Take her to the Doc as it sounds EXACTLY the same. Yellow stuff coming out of corner of eye and woke up in the morning with his eye glued shut with what I thought was snot from his nose that had somehow migrated but it quickly escalated and a few hours later he got it in his other eye.

TLESinChristmasStockings · 08/12/2008 15:18

well phoned gp this morning to get appt, new thing they have in practise...telephone consultation!!! gp calls back and without seeing ds2 says oh it is conjunctivitis am putting anti biotic prescription in reception for you. I ask for an appt. she tells me no need i know what is wrong with him...

errrrr you haven't even seen him!!!

DD has been to docs twice today, has got very bad cold and chest problems, not conjunctivitus tho thank god. However, if shes still the same in the morning, then back to docs and poss hospital trip, she would of gone tonight, but doc said would be best at home for now.

TLESinChristmasStockings · 08/12/2008 18:52

Hope she is ok hunni xx

Thanks hun x

I don't understand how they can diagnose your DS if they can't see him. hope he feels better soon xx

My GPs surgery is fantastic, they havent hesitated in seeing DD twice today, and said i need to take her in again in the morning to get her re assessed.
