Dd 4yo with VERY bad D&V :(

Got woken up at 1am by dd standing in my bedroom vomiting violently, this has carried on pretty much every half hour or so all night, and then a couple of hrs ago she ran to the bathroom and ended up vomiting and had diarrhoea all down her legs and all over the floor.

This has been whats happening for the last couple of hours, her lips are white and she is a right mess.

Is there any D&V bugs going round, i know the speel, lots of fluids etc, but is there anything else i can do?

I just hope 2yo ds doesn't catch it as well, as my only help (parents) are away on hols atm until 19th Dec.

Poor little love. I haven't got much advice as DD has had one yet, apart from obviously sipping drinks, and maybe thinking of some rehydrating fluids if she's that bad. Hope she's better soon.

That should be hasn't had one yet. I know there's a bad d and v bug going round.

bertiebear · 03/12/2008 08:03

To stop them vomiting up fluids, doctor advised me to give just a teaspoon of water every 10 minutes rather than a big drink - worked for us

Hope she's feeling better soon and keep away from everyone else!

pucca · 03/12/2008 08:16

Thanks, so there is such sort of bug doing the rounds then we only had it a couple of months ago, not as bad as this though.

Of course i will be keeping her away from others, passing on with no regard is one of my pet hates.

The bummer is, dd was supposed to be in a pageant tomorrow (an angel), such a shame as she has looked forward to it and practising the songs for a couple of weeks.

I've seen a lot of posts about d&v on mn at least. Shame she has to miss her pageant Is she still vomiting now or has it settled down a bit?

pucca · 03/12/2008 08:42

She is still vomiting badly, every sip she has, she brings it back up within 10 mins.

She has just said her neck hurts, but i think that is down to the amount of vomiting she has done.

Oh poor darling. Maybe a call to nhs direct if she's not keeping anything down at all, just for a bit of advice? Is she weeing. I really hope she settles soon for you.

It sounds like the bug dd1 bought home from school last week.

If there is a good side is that it only last 24 hours .

dd1 had it thursday and by the following monday we had all had it (dd1,dd2, dh and them me)

Keep an eye on her skin to see if she's sufficiently hydrated. If it loses its elasticity, that can be a sign of dehydration - what you need to do is gently pinch up a fold of skin on the back of her hand and let it go. If it pings straight back to smoothness, she's probably well enough hydrated. If it takes time to smooth out, this can be a sign of dehydration, at which point contact your gp.

If it carries on for long, you should consider a rehydration solution such as dioralyte which will help maintain her electrolyte balance.

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 03/12/2008 11:37

How's she doing now pucca?

pucca · 03/12/2008 23:24

She is a little better, it is a very severe bug but thankfully doesn't last that long. Very easy to catch though as at 1pm i started with it, and by 7pm dh had it too.

Won't go into too many details as far tmi, but OMG - the diarrahoea i now know why it was running down her legs and felt like i was going to see my stomach in the loo i vomited that much.

Ds hasn't caught it (yet) i am crossing all fingers and toes, he has got away with it, as it really does knock you off your feet.

Thanks everyone.

Sorry you're all still bad DD seems to have a bit of an upset tummy today with a bit of diarrhoea but I'm not sure what's going to come of it. Hope you're all better soon.

lizziemun · 04/12/2008 07:14

Pucca

I agree, i am nearly 40 and i can honestly say i have never felt so ill.

I'm glad your dd is on the mend.

pucca · 04/12/2008 08:59

Well it turns out that dh doesn't have it, he just felt a little sick probably by the sight of me throwing up exorcist style, yet he has gone to work and left me alone with dd and ds, even though today i can barely stand up, i asked him to stay home too.

WingsofaChristmasTreefairy · 05/12/2008 07:59

pucca Hope your feeling a bit better today.

My two ds's can't seem to get rid of it. I keep them off while they are ill and as soon as they go back to school they seem to pick it up again.
I've just bought some of those probiotic drinks to see if that will help.

They hardly had any time off last year but since November they've had lots of time off.
