Nappy Rash Again - Sorry

I know there's been lots of topics about Nappy Rash and I've looked them up but I'm abit stumped as to what to do about DD's cos I can't do the thing I'd usualy do (take off her nappy) as she's got a tummy bug too.

I've cleaned her bum with cotton wool and water (blood on the cotton wool from the blisters that have ruptured ) and put LOADS of sudocrem on then put her nappy on loosely but I dont know what else I can do.

Its obviously VERY painful and she SCREAMS when I pick her up unless I hold her so I'm not touching her bum at all.

She's got a cold to go with the tummy bug and nappy rash so all in all is feeling very sorry for herself and I want to give her some kind of relief so any hints/advice would be great.

Thanks all

Metanium is the only thing that clears up my dd's nappy rash.

mrsmortenharket · 02/12/2008 16:08

calpol?
(((((((((((())))))))))))
dd had the same when she was a little mite too, just don't take the hv advice (only this one, they can't all be the same) who said "don't change her nappy as often". i kid you not.

the only thing i can thinkof atm is calpol about half hour before a change is due but then if she is poorly as well, that might be easier said than done.

cool flannels?
it might be worth seeing if the doc will see her and have anythign to help her.

Second the Metanium - just be careful it doesn't get your clothes - its very thick-putty-like.

LuckySalem · 02/12/2008 16:10

Docs got no apts today and told me to ring back tomorrow morning to make an appointment - Which if she's still like this I will poor little mite.

Where can I get metanium? I've never heard of it.

We dont have calpol (all out) but i've got baby nurofen.

She's in bed at the mo (sleeping) but she keeps waking up winging and falling back to sleep. I dont know what to do for her.

Metanium cream is available at most chemists/supermarkets
it is thick, yellow and pongs a bit, but it clears nappy rash like magic

very soothing

mrsmortenharket · 02/12/2008 16:16

get some baby nurofen down her ((((((((())))))))

LuckySalem · 02/12/2008 16:17

Ok I will go to Chemist once DP is up and get some.

I'm worried that if I give her the nurofen now it'll wake her up completely and she hasn't slept all day which is VERY unusual for her.

I would get sprilon spray it is better than metainium IME and you spray it on rather than having to touch their raw botts, it's designed to protect bed sores from contact with urine & faeces, expensive (I had it on pescription mostly) but the best thing ever as it's a very thin coat so their skin still seems to breath.

LuckySalem · 02/12/2008 16:19

Oh well if i'm going to the docs tomorrow anyway i'll see if I can get him to prescribe some of that as well.

Poor thing . It's worth knowing that sudocreme stings like nothing else on broken skin....having tried it on myself when I had a cycling rash. I was horrified at how much it stung and never use it on broken nappy rash now.

My Dd gets really bad nappy rash such that we had to stop using real nappies and can only use eco disposables on her.

We wipe her with E45 lotion or doublebase (occasionally with baby lotion if she does a really smelly poo) on a very soft cloth. no water at all as this makes it worse.

When things are really bad, we whisk up an egg white (so it goes opaque) and then dab that on very gently and let dry. It forms an impervious barrier and as it's straight out of the fridge is very soothing. It cleared my DSs very bad bleeding and sore rash up overnight. If you make sure you don't double dip, then you can keep it in the fridge for next time.

Sounds a bit random, but it really works.

I hope she gets better soon.

mrsmortenharket · 02/12/2008 16:22

am sorry sweetheart, i meant to give her a dose when she wakes up (((((((((())))))))

LuckySalem · 02/12/2008 16:22

Ok will try that for her to go to bed with as although i'm trying to change her nappy every 1/2 hours she's gonna be sleeping for 12 so need something to put a barrier on her.

that's ok. it's horrible whne they're in pain
hope she feels better very soon xxx

Well I let her soak her bum in the warm bath for 1/2 hour put more cream on and tbh, it looks better.

Just looks sore in the creases and where her chubby legs rub together. Although she's created a new way of crawling to combat this. She crawls on one knee and the other foot to allow air to it.

Will still try docs in morning cos I need to sort out her eczema again.
