Can somebody please explain this CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY business to me? And how it might help my DS2? And where I find such a thing?!

Thanks

DS2 was born by emCS almost 4 weeks ago. Don't know if thats relevant.

Big baby.

Feeding a lot at night and I mean a LOT. Could be colicky?

I keep seeing murmurings of cranial osteopathy on here but I don't know what it is

They apply very very very gentle pressure (I think) to various parts on their heads to release tension. I love receiving CO makes a huge difference to me as an adult. It works very quickly on babies/chilred because they don't have years of stuff to sort out

I would google for practioners in your area.

Being born by CS can cause problems because when they go the birth canal for a VD then it does something important to their necks which being born by CS doesn't do? Mine always had tightness around the temples which meant they didn't open up wide enough for pain free bf, CO sorted that out very quickly.

HTH

MamaG, ds 5 weeks old. emcs. up ALL night. very windy. taken him to cranial oestopath twice in last week. I took ds there too- he was very colicky.
Am not totally convinced to be honest. But was so fed up, at breaking point from being up 10pm-5am, for a number of consecutive nights, that I was prepared to pay NAY amount of money.£30 per session.

Not sure how effective it is. But... was willing to try anything.
Couldn't get a recommendation. So looked at yellow ppages online. for oesteopath. One in next town. went there. that simple.

how else can I help you. what else do you want to know.

It is VERY unlikely that they do any HARM. Most people struggle with the cost v are they actually doing anything, argument.

my cranial ostoepath started on the head, said she could feel tension. then she seemed to massage base of spine and intestines, stomach area.
At the end of her session, He did the most explosive pooh, and I stood there covered in yellow shit
So if nothing else, one can 'assume' that she dislodged, a ....blockage ?

I think some of the medical profession think it's a bit of a con, but when DD2 was born, it became obvious that her spine wasn't straight and her neck was tilted. She was very screamy, so I took her to a CO, and he gently massaged her head, and spine. She straightened out and calmed down. She still has a funny-shaped head, but it's better than it was and I am going to take her for one or two more sessions. At the very least, I think it does no harm, and at best, it does amazing things for babies.
read about it here

CAr/ Sleigh
I didn't realise it was you. Will do, re e-mail. Are you o.k. ?

Thanks both - atthe yellow shit!

Just spoke to BF counsellor (local one) who said :0

  1. Might be thrush - get gel from Doctors (I went last week as I thought he had thrush - GP disagreed)
  1. At night, hand express until the milk is really flowing before putting baby on to the breast.
  1. Have a couple of duvet days - stop doing EVERYTHING, stay in bed during the day, lots of high calorie snacks/food, get DH to make a packed lunch for me etc etc as she thinks my milk may have gone down a little bit
  1. I have his night time feeding position all wrong - he lays on his back and turns his head to feed, I lay on my side facing him. She made me turn my head to the side and swallow - its bloody uncomfortable, poor little chap!

She doesn't want me to try dummy/infacol at the moment, and is going to come and see me Thursday (or phone if I prefer).

I think for hte sake of a day or two, its worth me trying the above before going down the CO route - we are bloody miles from everything and I just know we won't have a CO within reasonable distance.

yes Im fine, very bunged up (4 hours sleep last night - felt like I was going to die of toothache but it's my sinuses theyre dodgy)

Can't find your email addy (I'm a bit useless really)

Sure you don't want to come and help me finish off my journals tomorrow

SleighGirl · 02/12/2008 11:44

MamaG could he prefer the dark, quiet & being fed laying down or whatever is different for him at nighttime?

MamaG · 02/12/2008 11:45

I don't think so, as he's fussing a lot and crying at night - in teh day he has a good, long, decent feed than good long nap!

Bas wasn't em c-s (quick home birth_ but has had lots of CO which has helped him immensely; in one treatment he went from 6 to 2 feeds a night (his issues were a too quick birth, no time to adjust).

Colic could do it too, but CO helps that as well.

It has also helped him with separation anxiety- he's s till obsessive about me (Sensible lad ) but will allow my parents and dh to hold him now at least. Which is a biiiig change.

Oblomov · 02/12/2008 11:48

Mamag, I have the same. Have tried EVERYTHING.
and a HUGE Mn thread of advice.
and still no real better.
so, am unable to offer you any advice, I am afraid.

Nights SHIT.

SleighGirl · 02/12/2008 14:28

MamaG could it be your milk production has yet caught up with demand, not easy when your getting broken nights.

Perhaps a 3 day baby moon?
