Went shopping on Saturday, DD looked tired and had a little sleep in the car on the way to my mum and dads. When we got there, she said that her neck started to hurt, she had a blotchy rash. Later she started grabbing at her neck and head saying that they hurt. So we went to NSH direct, they did her temperature, checked her neck, checked her ears and throat etc. They said that she was fine, they appreciated she was not fine as to how we knew her, but there was nothing they could see wrong, possibly a viral infection. We took her home, and she did do the whole neck/back hurting thing again, but we just soothed her til she went to sleep.
So, Sunday, she seemed fine in the morning. We decided to go out for dinner, she was fine during the starter, but when the mains came out, she had a little cry and pulled her shoulders up saying her neck hurt. She brightened up after a few minutes, we took her to my parents after dinner. There she started having what I can only describe as spasms, grabbing hold of her neck and scratching at it, screaming that her head/neck/back hurt. Her face was bright red, her eyes puffy, her neck red, she was hot and looked in pain. So we took her to A&E
A&E have told us that she has had an allergic reaction to something. They gave us piriton, and told us to go home. While she was there she had one episode of the neck hurting thing, and the doctor said she was attention seeking.

So, I have a few questions:

  1. Do you agree it could just be an allergic reaction?

We have changed our washing powder recently, though yesterday she was in clothes that were washed in the old powder. Doctor said that it could be because she was around me wearing clothes in new powder. Which leads me to question two

  1. Why would it just be her neck/back that hurts, not her legs etc which had clothes on. Why would it not be an issue with other people wearing a different powder to us?

  2. what do I do now? Do I have to re-wash her clothes? What if it was not the powder?

  3. Could it be something else? We did give her peanuts in the morning on Sat, she has had them before, but could it be a late reaction or would it be immediate?

Help!

Elf she had plagiocephaly and was hypotonic.

Can you post a picture so we can look at the spots?

Has she had her mmr ?

hunnybun1981 · 02/12/2008 09:16

it could have been a reaction

my daughter is allergic to dogs

she would go very red and itch and her eyes very puffy and swell up can be scary at times.

these r the professionals i am sure they are right after the piriton did her symptoms go away?

Please believe in your instinct. I had a really snotty casualty doctor who told us ds's symptoms didn't fit with anything and the only reason she took his blood was on the GP's request. She ate a large amoung of humble pie when his blood films came back totally abnormal. He is recovering now- but could have been incredibly ill because of her. Push. Push. Push until you have an answer you are satisfied with.

elf how are things today?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 02/12/2008 18:15

Yes, she has had her MMR.
The rashy spots have gone, she just has a scabby one in her ear and next to the corner of her eyes, and a bit blotchy on her face. Her mouth is still scabby and dry.
She has been to the cm today and only said her head hurt once.
However, two of the other kids have come down with similar symptoms, so it may be viral rather than a reaction.
I'm going to see how she is tonight, hopefully if the pain thing has passed, its just getting over what is a potential viral infection.
As per yesterday, she seems perfectly happy, has been jumping around and singing and eating chocolate
