10 day old ds2 after he has had a feed (bottle) he is very nasal and sounds like a little pig snorting. I have propped up the mattress and using baby olbas oil which doesnt do much. I think it may be dairy intolerance (ds1 allergic) but my dh arguing with me saying it isnt and that ds2 isnt in pain with it.

Also sometimes he is very twitchy in his sleep that looks more like he is havin a fit. Is this normal?

My 3 all twitch when they are too hot. A pead saw it and wasn't overly concerned. Was only 1 limb at a time. But if you are worried obviously seek medical advice.

Please check teh instructions on the olbas oil. I thought it was potentially dangerous to use before 3m.

yes it is 3 months on label but was worried he couldnt breath at the time! Its very odd, he did it in his bouncy chair and i was v worried it was a fit but i picked him up and was fine. Maybe i will check with gp

Sounds pretty normal. My babies have often made so much noise in the night I had to wheel them into the bathroom in order to get some sleep!

mad4mybaby · 30/11/2008 21:19

the noise is after a feed, dh reckons it just mucus but does mucus not clear after 10 days?

I would advise against the olbas oil. I had heard that it has been shown to interfer with the brains breathing centre and can cause them to stop breathing rather than help them.

I have to admit that I can't remember where I saw this - and i can't find it by googling - but I know that I looked it up when I first heard it (on MN probably) and it looked like a genuine concern.

If you are that worried you should get him seen.

My baby had a snort too. He grew out of it. Midwife and HV weren't too concerned.

My ds had a twitch it was as if at the time i thought he was cold and it was like quick frequent shiver and he also could not lie on his right side. I told the MV they didn't seem concerned but ds grew we noticed other things he is now diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy this doesn't mean your baby will have just keep an eye out for any other signs.

DS was very snuffly at this age, I think it is just because they have very narrow nasal passages. We used to use a saline dropper before feeds which helped clear his nose a little.

dd used to make so much noise next to me that i had to put one ear plug in, because i am a light sleeper, and all of her snorting, snuffling and snoring used to keep me awake

dd had a dairy allergy which manifested itself with huge pain to her, excessive wind, reflux and eczema. She grunted when on non-dairy specialist formula. For us, it was just one of those things.

HTH
