she woke up screaming, has a new molar coming through so i think it may be that, so i gave her calpol after her milk. then she ate 3 spoons of cereal and screamed again, fell asleep on my shoulder so i put her in the cot and she had 20 mins. when she got up she kept hugging my legs and then was hungry so i gave her a sandwich at 10am cos its soft, she ate some and then screamed again. she was shivering and its 19 degrees in the house but i've turned the heating up. she did a poo and while i changed her bum she fell asleep on the change mat so i put her in the cot at 11.30 and she is still asleep.
do you think she needs to see a doc? or should i just check her temp and let her sleep it off.
she is 16 months, normally very lively but was violently sick sat and has a sore bum.

call you doctor for advice.
at least it'll put your mind at rest.

Shivering is a sign of a high fever. It doesn't sound teething related so it's best to get her checked over by the GP to be honest. I would call them now and tell them she's shivering and sleepy. You need to get her seen sooner rather than later.

ilovetochat · 27/11/2008 13:46

Fevers can fluctuate, one minute they are OK, 10 mins later they can be hot. Shivering is a sign of a very high fever.

cheesesarnie · 27/11/2008 13:53

do you have thermometer?

amen to that phantem.ds2 had temp of 39.4 underarm lastnight.calpol did nowt.made emergency appointment at gp.when gp took temp it was 37.lastnight went up again, not as high though.today hes off school and bit pale but full(to brim)of chatter.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 27/11/2008 13:55

Temps do tend to go up at night for some odd reason. Something to do with the body's metabolic rate changing. It's a PITA for parents though.

cheesesarnie · 27/11/2008 15:10

how is she ilovetochat?

ilovetochat · 27/11/2008 21:18

we just got back from a and e, she has a viral infection but they couldn't find any problems with her urine or blood, her temperature was 101.5 and her heart rate was sky high when the ambulance got here she was lying staring at nothing and couldn't lift her head or look at us, it was so scary!
she still hasn't eaten anything except a yoghurt but has drunk water now. she is much better than she was, just given her more calpol and getting her ready for bed, she had to eat when we got back after 8 so i'm hoping its gone down enough so she isn't sick when she lies down.
we will be watching her all night just in case but hopefully she is on the mend.
thank you all so much for asking!!

Poor thing. It's good you got her checked, it rules out all the nasties it could have been. Remember to take her back to the GP if she doesn't improve or gets worse though.

ilovetochat · 27/11/2008 21:43

will do thanks.
