Can these be taken together? does anyone know please? Dd is 23 months. High temp, cough, runny nose and bit wheezy and a hoarse voice...not much appetite either.
I'd be grateful for help please.

Nurofen is an ibuprofen so check to see if the benylin contains this. I don't think it does but you need to check. I wouldn't give the nurofen if he's wheezy, you are not supposto give this to asthmatics, it sounds like he needs checking over by the GP as he does sound poorly, he does need to get his chest listened to if he is like this.

It sounds like his throat's sore too.

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 27/11/2008 13:38

Could you confrim which Benylin product it is. If it is the green bottle with teh active ingrediants listed as Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 5mg, Triprolidine hydrochloride then it is not suitable for use under 2.

But tehre is no reason for a child over 2 not to have ibuprofen and this Benylin product together. They could also have paracetmaol/calpol.

But if I am loking at a different Benylin product teh answer could be differetent

We tend to 'stack' painkillers for DS
One dose calpol, 2 hrs later 1 dose nurofen etc

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 27/11/2008 13:41

Solo, it's avenanap. Don't give him iburofen, if he's wheezy he needs to see the doctor.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 27/11/2008 14:04

I've got to go back to Uni. I hope he's OK. I'll check back later.

solo · 27/11/2008 14:51

Thanks all...Dd saw the nurse practitioner yesterday as there were no docs appointments left. She said that her chest was clear. Dd's not asthmatic.
Dd wont take calpol, but will take Nurofen which is why I chose that one.
Thanks Avenanap(how are you? I'm suffering )

DoNot, it is suitable from 1~12 years. I haven't given her any of that yet, just the Nurofen.

I was going to see how she was tonight and go to the docs again if necessary tomorrow.

Solo....you may want to consider buying the 6+calpol as it is orange flavoured like nurofen.

You need to carefully calculate the dose though - and if you are not confident doing this I would not recommend it...but if you are it may be a solution to her not liking calpol. Another brand may also help if it is a different flavour.

Solo. I think you may have an old bottle. Cough medicines for children were all withdrwan in April this year. (apart from basic glycerol syrups).

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 27/11/2008 21:33

I'm sorry to hear that life's hard at the moment. It will get better though, you have to remember this. I'm OK.

It can be a viral wheeze, it's the same as asthma and still needs treating with an inhaler but will go away. Some pharmacy own brand paracetamol tastes better than calpol. Try boots own brand. Don't know why I put he and not she. Sorry about this.

solo · 28/11/2008 00:34

Tis ok Avenanap. glad you are ok.
I hope it is not asthma...a viral wheeze sounds the better option.
Definitely bought the benylin in Aug/Sept this year. It is dated expirey 2010.
Is the 6+Calpol for over 6 year olds? I wouldn't want to mess with those dosings tbh I'd just worry.
Dd is a nightmare for taking anything other than Nurofen orange flavour more than once. I don't know why or how she knows, but she does.
She's very restless tonight, but I've rubbed Vicks or Vaporub on her and have borrowed my friends room plug in thing for helping decongest your congestion. It's strong!c I can smell it downstairs!
Will phone docs at 8am and try to get her in.

Took Dd to the docs this morning and she has a little chest infection. Given her antibiotics(that'll be fun). Amazing that two days ago, the nurse practitioner said her chest was clear . Dd has been very sleepy today ~ most unlike her

Hi solo, I name changed for christmas.

I'm pleased you took her. They can change really quickly so it's good you took her at the right time and have some medication.

avenanap.

solo · 28/11/2008 22:59

Hi Avenanap. Thank you. Dd is not eating, but hopefully she'll be better in a few days.

I'm not in the mood to be Christmassy?/Christmasy? /namechange for Christmas . No money and a broken heart. Great combination that is eh?

I can join the no money club.

Just plenty to drink until she's feeling better. Is life no better for you?

solo · 28/11/2008 23:05

No, no better. To top it all, I'm totally exhausted.

OP posts:
scrooged · 28/11/2008 23:17

Is there someone who will come and give you a hand so you can have a rest?

solo · 28/11/2008 23:27

Unfortunately not. Been running around after mum and dad too...Dad is really poorly after his radio therapy.

OP posts:
scrooged · 28/11/2008 23:28

A friend?

solo · 28/11/2008 23:32

No. Everyone has their own lives. Best friend is caring for her elderly mum. Next one I texted her 3 weeks ago to tell her Dad has cancer and Dp is a git...you'd think she'd get in touch wouldn't you? but no, it took her until 2 days ago to text back. I'm so glad that I'm a good friend to have. I'd hate to be as good a friend as her. Other friends have young families/live miles away or just too busy. Isn't it sad?

I will manage somehow

I used to pop a dvd on for ds and have a nap whilst he was sitting with me. You wake up if they move. It does help.

solo · 29/11/2008 00:16

Dd doesn't sit still when she's well...wriggle arse
