My DS1 who is 13 1/2 came home from school Tues afternoon, pale, sweaty and feeling sick. Expecting usual few hours throwing up and then back to school today. However, he hasn't been sick, doesn't have a temp, is eating small amounts of bland food which makes him feel sick again - spending a lot of time looking down the loo...- and generally looks grim, pale, black sunken eyes, achy and tired. He is drinking water so shouldn't be dehydrated but really isn't well. I can't work out whether to let it go for a bit longer or see the GP, I suspect it is just a question of wait and see, but hate seeing him so miserable and being unable to help. He isn't a shirker, and is generally well, and there's no particular bug going round school (and none of us have anything yet?) Any suggestions - what to feed, what to do? Thanx

Does he have any tummy pain/headache? My DS1 (11) suffers abdominal migraine. Usually he gets really bad stomach cramping and doesn't want to eat and then maybe is sick after 24+ hours. just a thought.

I would go to the GP I think, if he really looks unwell. No doubt it will be a "non-specific virus" (our GPs diagnosis of choice), but there might be something they can do for him.

HTH

just another thought, there isn't anything wrong at school is there? bullying or similar? (DS1 also suffers mild anxiety that comes out in different ways, being pale and feeling sick is one of them)

DD, aged 13, had this last week. Threw up on the first day, then spent three days in bed but not being sick. On the third day she got up, ravenous and her usual sparkly self. Just try to make sure he keeps having plenty of liquids. There does seem to be a bug around - lots of the children at my school have had it too.

Thanks for advice. I gave him until Friday, he was more perky, came out for short walk, ate a more normal meal and slept lots more. He went in on Saturday (they do a half day), then a party in the evening - school do, and then we went out for lunch yesterday, which was more than I would normally have done, but all prearranged stuff. He seems absolutely fine, so hopefully that will be that - they finish here on Fri, arggh - so with luck he'll be well rested before the Christmas madness! I did check with doctor friend, (normally avoid that as it must drive them mad....), who said that it was probably more likely to be tiredness than anything else and a visit to GP would not be worthwhile. So, fingers crossed all will be well, and if it happens again I'll take it further.
