16-week-old sleeping on tummy?

My 16-week-old baby rolled onto his tummy for the first time yesterday and hasn't stopped since. Twice in the night he was on his face, and today when I went to get him from his nap he was on his face.

Is this ok at 16 weeks?

If he's doing it himself, then I would have though 'yes' tbh. I think thats the advice. Just keep putting him on his back when you put him down though.

  • DD had reflux and was only really happy when sleeping on her tummy... but didn't roll by herself until 7 mo or so... would have helped us all get a bit more sleep if she'd done it at 16 weeks.

Yes I have kept putting him on his back. The only thing is when he rolls over he crashes into the cot bars so when I get him up his face has a sort of mashed bar pattern in it. I am so antsy about all that back-to-sleep stuff, it's the one part of babyhood I am really precious about.

aren't we all?

yes... the mashed bar pattern.... well, if he wasn't it would be the cellular blanket pattern or something else

and... he would let you know if he was uncomfortable, wouldn't he? So maybe the bars are a comfort to him, like being snuggled up to something.

I used to put DD's rabbit on her head as it made her feel more secure (against her scalp at the side... not on top of her head IYSWIM).

VintageGardenia · 25/11/2008 16:22

Yes I suppose so. We have a rabbit here, too... could position as buffer between him and bars.

Anyway unless I sit staring at him all night he will turn without my knowing so I suppose no point giving self indigestion over it.
