Just curious really as ds nearly 17 months does not seem interested in walking by himself. He has been happily cruising since about 12-13 months, walking around the furniture using a little push-a-long, he will even use the walls and with some encouragment he will walk holding both my hands. He just does not seem to want to walk by himself, he has never crawled but is a 'bum shuffler'! Don't know if that makes a difference.

I have two older children ds who walked at 10 months and dd who walked at 13 months.

So, just interested really to find out whether this is out of the ordinary, I wasn't really worried about it but a few comments from other people have made me wonder . . .

Thanks Just off on school run, will check in when back.

DD - walked unaided at 10m

Swedes · 25/11/2008 15:49

DS1 12 months to the day
DS2 16 months
DD 20 months (possibly even 21 months)
DS3 15 months

cali · 25/11/2008 15:50

dd1 - 14 months
dd2 - still waiting at 15 months, cruises around the place but hasn't shown any real interest in walking by herself, I didn't walk until 22 months so she's got plenty of time.

Englebert · 25/11/2008 15:51

12mths, 14mths and 16mths for mine.

jelliebelly · 25/11/2008 15:53

ds 17/18 months - he just wasn't bothered about getting anywhere particularly quickly and liked being picked up/carried I think .He's now 3 years old and can't sit still so obviously didn't make any difference!

Fimbo · 25/11/2008 15:54

Both of mine walked at 13 months

mumof2222222222222222boys · 25/11/2008 15:56

Mine were 12 and 14 months.

My nephew was 18 months.
My niece (different family) was 23 months.

They all get there!

Scarletibis · 25/11/2008 20:43

DD1 15 months

DD2 was v similar to your DS at 17 months - had been cruising for ages. Finally walked at 17.5 months.

I think it was mainly cautiousness in her case - she is still a very cautious child where it comes to physical things like climbing.

CatMandu · 25/11/2008 20:45

dd1 - 10 months, dd2 17 months, ds 12 months.

emma1977 · 25/11/2008 20:45

10.5m

Bum-shufflers tend to be later walkers, so don't stress.

lulurose · 25/11/2008 20:47

Her 2nd birthday!!! (DD2) She is hyper mobile, absolutely fine now.

17 months (DD1)

nickytwotimes · 25/11/2008 20:47

17 mths.

He was too busy talking to do anything else.

My ears frequently threaten to bleed.

thisisyesterday · 25/11/2008 20:48

ds1- 8.5 months
ds2- 9.5 months

bum shufflers are notoriously late walkers though, so I wouldn't worry

littleboyblue · 25/11/2008 20:50

This is interesting. Everyone I know kept asking me if ds was walking and I'd say no, not yet and I started to think ds was really late, I thought I was doing something wrong.
He walked at 14 months so that looks pretty average.
Because he didn't crawl til 10m either I was constantly worrying.

ScottishMummy · 25/11/2008 20:53

11.5months used to lollop and propel quicker than walking.so no worries MB

spicemonster · 25/11/2008 20:54

Mine has only just started walking more than a few steps and I was starting to get quite worried! He was 19.5 months. He's now been walking properly for about 3 weeks and you'd think he'd been doing it for ages. He hardly ever falls over. I suspect he's been practising secretly for a while

TheBlonde · 25/11/2008 20:54

15mths - cruised about 9mths?
18mths - much later to cruise but no clue when

LetMeEatCake · 25/11/2008 20:55

dd - 20months!

marchbunny · 26/11/2008 11:33

Thanks All

So it seems that 17 months or later is not that 'out of the ordinary' for a bum shuffler to walk!

Think he needs to just build up his confidence, he was so funny earlier- thought it would be fun to see if he would walk to the car whilst holding my hands, he would not even contemplate this and just sank to the floor and asked to be carried

Don't think he sees a need for walking when there is a perfectly good Mummy to carry him!
