Worried re frequency of neurofen and calpol doses

My 10 month old DD has been constantly poorly since starting nursery 2 months ago; colds, temperatures, diarrhoea, sick bugs, teething etc etc; you name it, we've had it; possibly only 1 week of healthy days in the last 10 weeks....Whilst we would never exceed the recommended doses of neurofen or calpol, we do seem to be giving her medicine at least a couple of times a week, if not more.

As an adult, I never take medicine unless I can help it, but I also want to be able to relieve DD's obvious distress, and medicine does do the trick. I use teething powders and gels where possible, rather than anything stronger when I know that it's teething that's the trouble.

Am I doing the right thing here? What else can I do?

I would not worry about giving medicine a couple of times per week.
Children will inevitably pick up lots of different bugs when they first start nursery and you'll feel like it is never ending. Just think of the boost her immune system is getting though, by the time she starts school, she should hopefully be pretty healthy.

Calpol is safe to give 4 times per day and you can give it 4 hourly if needed.
Ibruprofen can be given 8 hourly I think for someone of your dd's age.

I personally do have a fairly low threshold for giving my dc's medicine as they both have the ability to suddenly have exceptionally high temperatures, dd1's record temp was 42c.

Thanks for your reassurance, Cali; don't think we've hit 42c yet, but no doubt we'll be trying... ;)

hope she gets better soon and that you all have an easier time of it!

Agree with Cali and try not to worry
