Alternative to baby wipes?

DD (8 months) seems to dislike baby wipes (even the sensitive skin ones) being used to wipe her face- she goes all spotty. (She's fine with them on her bottom btw) I'm currently using water and a scrap of lightweight silk which is better but she's still got very dry skin around her mouth. Should I be putting some kind of moisturiser on the silk before I wipe her mouth and if so can I have some recommendations ?
Or should I use vaseline afterwards?
She's in the throes of weaning so I'd like something that I can use everytime she goes near food ideally. Preferably in combination with a hose.

I just used a facecloth with water and put almond oil on ds' dry bits when he was asleep.
he would not let me put any kind of cream on him awake!
Have you tried wipes from green baby or the other eco ones. Pricey but nice.

Get a big tub of aqueous cream from Boots (ask at the pharmacy counter - its about 3 quid for a mahoosive tub) and a pack of cheap flannels from the pound shop.

Dip flannel in cream and wipe - it cleans and moisturises in one

wet wipes are horrible on your face anyway.

A normal flannel is fine, I would use vaseline around her mouth afterwards.

if you are posh use Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - it's like vaseline but appears to have magical powers. It was the ONLY thing that worked on my dd's dribbly rash round her mouth and friend's ds's cracked lips when they were tiny.

Apparently Catherine Zeta Jones used it for nappy rash

You can get some extra-strong but soft kitchen roll type stuff - i think it is sold in diy stores - which seems to be the same as babywipe material. I used that instead of wipes on faces, with a little water. I prefered something disposable for faces - i suspected things like facecloths were probably full of unspeakable bugs

I may try the aqueous cream before the Elizabeth Arden stuff as I think DH would be very sceptical if I said it was for the baby. Although I like the idea of us both having matching glowing complexions!
Thanks for all the tips.
