Please come & talk to me about MMR side effects

Apologies in advance - I know there are already lots of threads on this, but I just need some reassurance please. My 15mo DD had her MMR 2 weeks ago. A few days ago she developed a temperature (highest was about 39.5 degrees). That has now gone, but she then she developed a rash all over her torso, face, neck and legs. Although she is eating, her appetite is definitely diminished.

These side effects are not uncommon as I understand. But there are a couple of other things which concern me. She is quite unsteady on her feet. From being a really confident walker (the nurse who gave her the MMR even commented on this), she now totters more and seems slightly off-balance, often falling down. She has also gone from being a fab sleeper (has slept thru' 12 hours for months now) to being nigh on impossible to get to sleep in the evening and then waking several times in the night & just screeching for me. She has also gone from being a very happy little girl to really quite miserable.

I have booked a doctor's appointment for tomorrow, but was looking to see if anyone else's DC had experienced similar following the MMR. I feel really upset about this. Before she had it I had no doubts at all that it was the right thing to do. But now I am just thinking what the hell have I done to my DD.
Also, we go on holiday on Saturday and now I feel worried that she won't be up to the journey (8 hour flight).

I know this is an ancient thread but for anyone interested you can fill out your own yellow card here

I don't know if you're meant to use it for vaccinations (probably not) but there's nothing stopping you and any potential reactions should be recorded. Ideally a doctor would record it as well but they are often very reluctant (no idea why as the system is meant to highlight potential -rather than proven- reactions).

oh they've added a line and said it can be used for vaccines. Hmm that's new then!

This thread is a zombie from 2008? It was resurrected in 2010, we already have at least 2 or 3 current vaccine threads Sciencemummy? With some really good debate on the AIBU one

I realise this is a zombie thread, but just wanted to pick up on the yellow card point. The yellow card system is for suspected side effects, it doesn't need to be proven or unknown. It's how the MHRA can monitor the safety of a medicine after it's been approved for general use, as often the pre approval data are quite basic and on small numbers. It's important for an accurate idea of how many people react as well as the type of reactions. Sadly, even many HCPs don't seem to understand this.

Please, anyone who suspects a reaction, report it via yellow card so that bigger patterns can be seen. The MHRA can then investigate the link further. Anyone can do this, just google yellow card MHRA.

Good afternoon,

In July 2018 this year I recently had an employee health immunization vaccine for MMR as I was told that my titers were low. I was born in 1974 so it had been years since I've had one. It was a volunteer vaccine and it was sub-q so I said I'll do it. I had my 1st in July, had no issues. The 2nd 30 days later in August 2018, however this time I noticed a lot of soreness, redness, and a pretty good sized lump. So my thinking was, of course this is normal at the site, so I thought it will go away in less than a week. Never paid any mind to it. Three weeks down the road redness still there, lump still there (just a little smaller) but now I started to lose my voice (Laryngitis) and right hip joint pain as if I've done an exercise I shouldn't have (btw no exercise at all). I wasn't sick and I did not over exert myself in any way. My gut tells me to start searching the web about side effects of this vaccine, and apparently my symptoms matched. It's 10/1/2018 and still have pain in my hip getting slightly better and my voice is very, very, slowly trying to come back. Had I known this was going to happen to me or at least a side effect, I probably wouldn't have opted to get the MMR vaccine. So I basically have to wait this out as my body adjusts to the vaccine unfortunately, or at least that's what I've read and I'm hoping it's true. I just wanted to share my personal story of what happened to me as an adult who received this vaccine.

Hi. Why can't all parents be offered a MMR vaccine sensitivity/allergy screening test prior to going ahead? This would eliminate any parental worries and would detect the tiny, tiny minority of children who should avoid the treatment. Is this so crazy? The robotic certainties uttered by doctors and nurses are not shared by scientists working in immunology.

Iesugrist · 07/06/2019 18:14

Because there isn't any such test, and anyone claiming to offer one is a fraudster preying on people's anxiety.
