Ds is always teething - each tooth takes a month to come. He is always chewing and biting stuff. Has a fever every couple of weeks. Is a crap sleeper and generally fussy and clingy.

He's been like this since 4 months old and is nearly 1.

Other people's babies seem to fuss for a few days, apply calgel, have a bad night then out pops a tooth, and back to sunny self.

Its driving me insane - anyone else?

God yes, dd2 was a nightmare. She would be cranky for weeks before it cut then it would cut and we would have a few days, literally, of peace and normal sleeping, ie past 5am, then she would start again with a new tooth. Very horrible, but now that she is over 2 yo and has them all she is sleeping much better, til normal times, even though she is now cutting the second molars. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it might be a long drive.

My ds was like this too.

He's 2,4 now, and has the set, thank God.

I relied heavily on calpol at times.

medised is the best at night, it sedates them, and dries up the snot so they breathe and sleep better.

Ds started with his 1st tooth when he was 3 months old - he's 18 months now and has 16 - so 1 a month. He's on with theback ones just now, but god they have been taking ages!!

Yes, another one here. Ds is 17 months and I swear if he cuts any more teeth then he is actually a small crocodile.

The latest one appeared to be almost through yesterday but he is clingy and fretful today (and away with his Dad)

CaptainKarvol · 24/11/2008 14:33

Yes. DS is 2.9 (I think - counts frantically), and still hasn't got his last molars. Each tooth seemed to take months.

The three things that have helped his sleep are fewer teeth coming, being dry at night (weeing always woke him up) and just getting older.

Medised never touched him - like me, he doesn't get drowsy on antihistamines.

Yes, my DD was ALWAYS teething (got her first at 3 months) and very grumpy with it. It used to really get me down too. I'd see all these other babies who wouldn't be bothered by their teeth and feel so jealous!

Anyway, she got her complete set by the time she was two and she's now a happy little soul. In fact I look back and I can barely remember the teething, even though it was bad and constant. I'm sure you will be the same, just hang on in there. I always found calprofen to be much more effective than calpol. A big glass of wine after she'd gone to bed was very effective for me too!

The DTs are like this - been going since they were 10 months old and still only have 8 teeth each - they are 16 months now! It is constant.

bumbleweed · 25/11/2008 21:10

Thanks you have all made me feel less like a freak who is imagining it.

He has now had a streaming nose for 3 weeks, a high temp and cried constantly even when in my arms for 3 days solid. Its exhausting and my 3 year old is getting no attention and is playing up so much.

Drinking wine and eating chocolate right now to get over the day we have had!!!

Oh god yes. Dd's first tooth came through at 4.5 months (the same week that the colic stopped!) and then she teethed constantly until she was a year, by which time she had all 16 teeth. They just kept coming! We then had nearly a year's gap before the final 4 molars came through when she was almost 2. They were the worst! They all came through at once.

Flightattendant4 · 25/11/2008 21:18

Yes. I didn't know there was a support group for this or that the problem actually existed

Ds2 has been clinging on for dear life especially at night now for weeks...

He is nearly 18mo and has four top, four bottom, and one molar just through

I think he'll be 6 before it stops.

Does anyone else give calpol every day?

I am at the point with ds where I have no idea whether he is tired, teething, hungry, just clingy when he starts wining. Probably combination.

Is it wrong to give calpol every 4 hours up to the max dose for a few days to see if that improves sleep and general mood?
