PANIC ATTACKS....ANY ADVICE?!

My DD is almost 10yrs old. She's suffered with IBS for almost a year. During this time we've had her in hospital twice due to her collapsing with the pain from her stomach. She's been on and off medication throughout the year and is now back on the meds following a visit to the hospital last week (collapse). She's had panic attacks on and off over the last few weeks - normally early in the mornings - about 4am. She had another one this morning - she woke up due to DD2 waking up and screaming at 4am and even tho in separate rooms DD1 woke up as well and immediately had stomach pain which, we think, caused her to worry and have the attack. She finds it hard to breathe and her throat swells up. She shivers and says she feels sick.

I'm quite happy to get her back to the Doctors this morning and whilst she was due to go back to school today (she was off all last week due to her stomach trying to settle down) because she's had such a bad few hours we've agreed to keep her off today to get some more sleep.

Anyone else have a child with similar symptons, if so any advice? We've got a night-light for her, I've told her to read a book, do a crossword, put her tv on....whatever takes her mind off her IBS symptons to prevent a panic attack but I'm now at a bit of a loss as to what to suggest.

Dd (12) gets these panic attacks. Also caused by the fear of pain (she has chronic joint pain). She has been taught some basic relaxation exercises and has a book with soothing pictures, but often she needs me to talk her through them. In fact, the other week I failed and we ended up having to call a paramedic, as we thought it might be her asthma . Will also let her get into my bed if she needs it.

Thanks cory....I've got a Dr appt this morning with her to get a second opinion on these attacks. They only really happen at night. I will ask about relaxation techniques too cos I know nothing about them. Thanks for your advice/help. Much appreciated and glad, tbh, I'm not alone on this one. x
