14mo with very runny nappies - why?!

DS is having 3 or 4 very runny/smelly nappies a day - if it was a diarrhoea bug it would be more frequent than that, yes? And I know they can have runny nappies when they're teething but isn't that when they drool lots? He's not dribbling at all. Some of the family have had a cold and although DS doesn't seem to have it yet I suppose it could be on his way - do they get icky nappies if they have a cold? He seems fine in himself, just more whiny then usual. Very confused...

my first thought was teething

DS's nappies are RANK when he teeths

had a prod around his gums and see if you can feel anything

My ds1 had this all the time went to the GP loads by just put it down to toddler diarrhoea and said he would grow out of it. He's lots better now. Ds2 (15mnths) has just started the same - not looking forward to another year of manky nappies!

Alternatively a friend told me that babies who teeth either dribble and swallow or it comes out. There's something in the dribble that causes the dodgy poo or nappy rash. Think she was trying to reassure me that it was teething with ds2!

Oh my goodness loler - a year?! I couldn't stand that much washing!!! Makes sense about the dribble going down rather than coming out. Good idea about feeling gums Ruby - will do.
