DD has broken her front tooth. Advice (and sympathy) needed please!

DD (2.1yrs) fell over in the bathroom at nursery yesterday and hit her face on the wash basin. One of her front teeth has half missing and the other has a slight chip.

DH took her to the emergency dentist yesterday, but he says they probably wouldn't be able to rebuild the tooth due to her age. Is this correct [hmmm]? She's got to go back next week to have it checked again.

Has anyone else experienced similar with their DC? Will she be left with half a dead tooth or will it fall out? And could it cause problems with her adult teeth coming through?

DD is fine now and very impressed that she got a sticker from the dentist. I feel awful though!

Same thing happened to dd at this age. I cried on the phone to my parents and told them my beautiful daughter was maimed. They told me not to be silly. On balance, they were right .

She just had a half tooth until it fell out naturally some 5 years later. Now she has an adult tooth there and nobody would ever know anything had ever been wrong. Can't even remember which tooth it was tbh.

You feel awful the first time something like this happens. But really, you will all settle down and forget about it, no great harm has been done, she should still be fine with her adult teeth.

I do know how you feel: I think I was more upset over this one than when I found out a few years later that dd was going to be permanently disabled. Because it was the first time something had happened and I was still so weighed down with the responsibility of protecting her from all harm.

sympathy here! DD1 fell and broke both her front top teeth when she was about 2. They snapped half way up, and then kind of wore away and now she just has 2 tiny bits of teeth left at nearly 6. Dentist said there was nothing to be done, but obviously it wont affect us for too much longer. Its amazing how quickly you get used to their new look, and dont notice anymore.

My dd chipped both front ones diagonally about a year ago aged 1.5. I was gutted as I was helping her up a climbing frame and she tipped forward. Only the day before I'd been adoring her smile. The dentist said there was nothing he could do and that there was a chance one or both would go blue but neither did. They were still growing so it's less obvious now and they have worn a bit so are less sharp but it made breastfeeding rather painful for a while- 2 little points!

Oh you have my sympathy, it's horrible. My DD chipped both front one a couple of months ago. Like the others, the dentist didn't do anything (but had us back every couple of weeks to check until yesterday when we were signed off, hooray ). You're not in Chester are you, Katiechops?
We were also warned they might go black. Also that they might have to be extracted - but they have firmed up, so no need for that (phew). The dentist said at her age there is every probability that the teeth underneath will not be damaged at all.
Breastfeeding was uncomfortable for a few days but they seemed to soon smooth off and now you would hardly notice. They obviously caused her pain for a couple of weeks so we gave nice soft food. (She can chomp apples again now though.) Dentist also reckons that if you look round a playground you will realise just how often it happens

Just asking because when I was in getting DD2's teeth checked again this week, the dentist was telling me all about this woman whose child had done the same and - - was cross because the dentist wouldn't file and cap the tooth! Just wondering

Ds aged 2 1/2 chipped his front tooth today and I'm devastated, because it was while he was running away from me, and I was chasing him and bellowing at him to "Come here now!" It's about 1/6 of his tooth, so noticeable and a bit sharp, but doesn't look strange at all, and he's in no pain whatsoever. I was all for dragging him off to A&E, but have calmed down and decided just to make a dentist appointment for as soon as I can. Unless anyone else advises otherwise?
