DD has a cough...again

DD has a cough for the third time in roughly five weeks. She seems to just be free of it for a few days then is snuffly again and has a really persistent cough.
She coughs until she vomits. I have tried steam, propping her up in bed, drinks etc but nothing seems to settle it.
I was concerned last time so took her to GP. Her chest was clear so that was ok.
I just wonder if I should take her back?
She has a multi vit every day plus Minadex. Also ecinachea to give her immune system a boost. Her diet is pretty good.
At her 3.5 yr check she had dropped a centile in weight. Waiting for a follow up appt.
Am I being a bit neurotic or would you be worried too?
TIA.

We were in this situation, and still are, with ds who is almost 2.

Could your dd have asthma? Has GP ever given her a trial of an inhaler? DS constantly has cough, esp at night time and frequently vomits while coughing. Also is quite wheezy / has coughing fits when running around.

Like you we tried steam , propping up the bed etc. GP gave him an inhaler - despite chest being clear he said that little ones can get spasms in their chest which cause the cough and can be a sign of asthma - though they don't like to diagnose before age 2 as lungs not fully developed. Ds has restarted his blue "reliever" inhaler again due to developing a cough again and it has now gone. GP reassured us the inhaler would do no harm as was such a low dose, and in fact it has been great for ds, though am now feeling he's going to need them longer term.

Possibly you could ask GP for a trial of an inhaler to see if it makes a difference - if it does it'll be within a couple of days.

Hope you and dd get some help with this.

Thanks columbolover. I had thought about asthma being a possibility. I will ring GP tomorrow for appt.
Glad that your ds has improved with inhaler. Dd has finally settled so will hopefully manage a few hours sleep.

DS got a cough & cold last Jan when he was about 9 mths old and it wnet away a bit during the summer, but since it's got cold and damp, the cough has come back with vengence. He's fine most of the time during the day, but nighttime is horrendous (coughing till he pukes, he has reflux too, and not sleeping), so at our last paed appt we laid it on the line for the paed (exhaustion as no sleep and prob about to be sacked as only doing half the work I;m supposed to) and the paed seemed to take notice.

DS is now on ventolin syrup morning & eve (paed said that little ones haven't got the muscle tone to make an inhlaer particularly effective) and this week had this increased to inlcude the inhaler 2 a day too.

This has made a world of diff, sleeping much better, cough is greatly reduced, less wheezy & chesty and generally a lot happier and eating better & sleeping better too. We'd tried all sorts of things, propping his cot up, wet towels on the rads, lots of olbas oil and Vicks in his chest and despite our reluctance to give him more drugs, the ventolin does seem to have worked.

Hope you get some help with your GP
