Perfectly normal and it can take weeks to clear I'm afraid. In the emanit4me stop using any baby bath like Johnsons no matter how "natural" it claims to be.

brimfull · 12/11/2008 18:20

my dd had this at the same age.it does go on it's own eventually
try not to worry too much,I can't remember how long it lasted with dd,a few weeks maybe, maybe longer.
I didn't treat it at all ...just washed as usual and it cleared up

PortAndLemon · 12/11/2008 18:23

It is unsightly, but it does go on its own. Clean with plain water, dry thoroughly and don't use creams etc. as they can make it worse. Unfortunately it varies in how long it takes to go. DD's lasted abut a month but various websites suggest it could last or a couple of months.

greenlawn · 12/11/2008 18:26

Aw, my 6 week old ds3 has it too! And he was born with such "perfect" skin!

Would second the advice NOT to put anything on it and to avoid any products - maybe just make sure she has scratch mits on so she doesn't scratch and make it worse?

PSCMUM · 12/11/2008 18:37

what does it look like exactly? if it is red spots with yelow puss in them and it is not going away, that could be really serious> i thought my baby had acne< she didn@t< she had something much much more serious. i don@t mean to worry you< i just would hate you to miss anything that could be serious.

PortAndLemon · 12/11/2008 19:07

(although most of the time even red spots with a little bit of pussy stuff will just be baby acne)

blinks · 12/11/2008 19:11

it'll eventually become dry and go away... when it becomes dry Aveeno cream works well.

apparently it's hormonal.

TheArmadillo · 12/11/2008 19:14

It'll disappear in it;s own time. Ds had it for months.

There's nothing the dr can do - you just have to leave it to sort itself out.

sambrads · 12/11/2008 19:39

she only has had the odd pussy one but most of the time its just red spots PSCMUM what did your baby have??

it does look bad and i feel awful for being so vain about it but she had such beautiful clear pink skin when she was born

Various pluses

  • it doesn't look as bad in photos as it does in real life
  • if you convert photos to black and white it's even less obvious
  • if you Photoshop it out of photos it's not obvious at all

It is very unfair, though -- you're just at the stage where you want to show your gorgeous perfect baby off to everyone and suddenly they have a pizza face.

DD's skin did settle down to being perfect again afterwards, though.

lubblyjubblies · 13/11/2008 10:17

My little one had this too, started about 3 weeks of age. Was really bad for about 2 months, very red and angry looking spots and bumps. It gradually got very dry and flaky, then just cleared up. He now has lovely skin but I can always tell when he is brewing a virus as he gets little spots under his skin.

sambrads · 14/11/2008 11:29

does anyone know if this is normal to have on there chest doctor said it was but now it has spread unto her belly i hate spots and rashes you always think the worst

OP posts:
greenlawn · 14/11/2008 13:46

Sambrads, I don't know if its normal but I assume it is - I just took my 6 week old ds3 to the GP for his 6 week check, he was examined all over - GP didn't mention the spots on his face/chest, and neither did I.

PortAndLemon · 16/11/2008 08:23

I think that I remember reading that if it spreads further than the face and neck you should check with a doctor. But then you have checked with a doctor, I suppose...
