I have identified dd's poo on the Bristol Stool Scale, but I can't find out what this means is wrong with her diet

Bristol Stool Scale

She is doing type 5. This is unusual and means there is either too much X in her diet or not enough Y.

But what is X and Y?

It's good innit.

Do you check all her poos against the Bristol Stool Scale?

I wouldn't worry. Everyday my son comes up with something new from that scale.

BroccoliSproccoli · 12/11/2008 17:00

I would quite like it for a bathroom poster.

dds' paed told me (when he had just put her on Movical) that the manufacturer's of Movical used to give out free t-shirts with the bristol Stool Scale on them!!
(sorry - no help to you whatsoever)

BroccoliSproccoli · 12/11/2008 17:02

Lol - no not all Spag.

OP looks a bit pfbish doesn't it.

Minimising typing as wriggly baby bfing on knee.

Am concerned generally about dd's diet and stool. Would like to use her poo as a clue to finding out what's wrong generally.

No help I am afraid, except to say that my dd gets type 5 - 6 if she drinks apple juice and type 1 - 2 if she eats too many bananas

But ROFL at the Bristol Stool Scale and t-shirts with it on them.

KatyMac · 12/11/2008 17:08

Oh that's good

I have IBS & can do all of those in a day

I'd guess too much fruit.......

silverfrog · 12/11/2008 17:17

right,

I have spent a lot of time examing poo and relating it to various scales (dd1 is ASD, has a gluten and dairy intolerance, and other dietary issues; dd2 has the foulest nappies imaginable, which I am trying to get her paed to take seriously)

I have, in the past, used this range of descriptions.

Disclaimer:
IT IS REALLY QUITE GRAPHIC AND DESCRIPTIVE, AND GOES INTO DETAILS YOU MAY NOT WANT TO KNOW, INCLUDING SYMPTOMS OF SOME SERIOUS ILLNESSES

ahem

so anyway, it is mildly interesting, if you are interested in that sort of thing...

Millarkie · 12/11/2008 17:29

Wish I had known about the Bristol stool scale last week when I took dd to the doctors. I could have simply said..'but she's doing 4s how can she be constipated!' instead of umming and errring and ending up with a prescripton for movicol for her.

claireyBANG · 12/11/2008 17:43

LOL at the second link:

stringy-ness to stools?like cheese strings

Mumsnetters wouldn't know anything about that of course...

claireyBANG · 12/11/2008 17:45

ahem I do know how to do italics really
