My DS aged 3 has mild eczema - this is managed with cream from the doctors and seems to be ok - just recently however I have noticed that his scalp is pure white under his hair and really flakey and itchy - not sure what is the best thing to use on his hair to get rid of it - a friend has mentioned Polytar? has anyone tried anything that has worked?

Olive oil mixed with tea tree oil helps mine and my dd 6...don't wash his hair too much either as soap is a huge irritant, we've also found by not eating dairy helps! Good luck

Thanks jenaegi do you mix the olive oil and tea tree oil with the shampoo or put it on then shampoo it off?

Put the olive oil and tea tree on I leave it on for a while even over night, obviously carefull of the eyes, using a nit comb can get rid of all the dry skin (sorry sounds horrid!) wash of with mildest shampoo. Hope it helps.

I used Dermol 500 lotion - comes in a pump dispenser - you can get on prescription. Use it to wash with like soap, but I also used it on my ds's head - totally cleared his cradle cap etc.

If you use Epaderm you could wash his hair with that (it lathers up like soap). Not sure how his hair will look afterwards, but as long as it clears the eczema who cares?

I have this, and my best solution so far is jojoba oil mixed with tea tree, lavender and rosemary essential oils and left to soak in for as long as possible. Then put shampoo straight on to remove (without wetting first). I bought the jojoba oil on ebay, and am going to try adding some avacado oil too

OOOhhh cmotdibbler I will try that thanks!

And as a side effect, it makes your hair super shiny and soft

I forgot to say that I find that the Lush solid shampoos are great as they have no preservatives etc. Even my mum who has minging eczema and is very sensitive can use them without problems
