DD3 is prone to ear infects and has yet another one along with a sore throat according to doc. We are on arthrymycin as she is allergic to Penicilin.

Thur and Fri her temp went to 40.1 (I had very wobbly legs) and she has eaten little since. This is no new thing, food is not a priority and I am used to her not eating, especially when poorly.

Last night she started spitting food out, seemed very keen to put it in and seemed very hungry, would eat a square millimeter of it then spit. This has carried on this morning.

She seemed to be trying to tell me her tongue was sore - is this a common thing? Could she now be playing with me with the spitting or could it be her molars coming through?

She was sick last night but does suffer with reflux so again, nothing new there. Once she had been sick she was much brighter and took another 7 ounces (cows milk)

Please help, any advice needed as v tired. DH has been away since Thursday and I fear I am going slightly loopy.

Many thanks in advance.....

Has she got thrush? My DD (19 mo) was doing this on Friday- seemed really hungry then kept spitting out food. Dashed her to GP and she has oral thrush. He gave us some nystan and after the first dose she was eating again.

I have just come through a period of food spitting with dd - sounds identical to your dd - and it also co-incided with her being ill and teeth! She would only eat those Ella's organics things for around a week so that is what she got. Anything that involved chewing would go in then get spat out.

Hope your dd gets back to normal again soon.

What do I look for catweazle? With thrush don't they have white spots? Is Nystan on on prescription? Many thanks

We couldn't see any white spots. She was dribbling loads and kept touching her mouth, and was spitting up lots of gunk. The nystan was on prescription yes and she's taking it no problem.

Catweazle - I am glad you said no white spots as I couldn't see any in DDs mouth, just a white coating on her soft palate. She has her hands in her mouth all of the time. Luckily we have an out of hours walk in center here for the weekends so we are seeing a doc at 3pm. I did get some gel from the chemist this morning and about an hour later she ate a banana which is progress! Thanks for the advice.

Meep - thanks too, I am hoping it clears up soon! But I guess as long as she is taking the antibiotics the thrush could keep on?

Sorry to barge in but if a baby has thrush for a long time (my DS3 4 months has been putting his hands in his mouth continuously and is getting unhappier and unhappier as the days go by, and I noticed today that the palate of his mouth is silver colour) can it make him dribble non stop (have to change his top twice a day and use bib too!) Could it also make him sick and horrible? (Think he has tummy bug too, but was wondering if the difficult baby prior to bug might have something to do with thrush - a sudden thought having read this!

WidgetWB · 09/11/2008 13:34

Also - we used to get thrush really badly when I was breast feeding - for about 8 weeks we had thrush coming and going, me on my boobs and him in his mouth.

I kind of thought he was teething but he has been doing this for about a month so its quite early I think!

BlueBumedFly · 09/11/2008 19:50

Catweazle - if you are still around many thanks for the info, it is oral thrush. We went to see the doc and DD is now on Nystatin (sp?) which she truly hates. I now have to get in erythromycin and nystatin and pain killer and gaviscon!!! Joy!!

Pleased to have been of help. We were in a real panic at the state of DD on Friday

BlueBumedFly · 09/11/2008 20:54

Catweazle, do you finish the whole bottle? We have ml x 4 times a day and have a 30ml bottle. It is like antibiotics where you have to finish it all up do you know?

Is your DD OK now? How long was the onset of action?

I am used to DD not eating, since we weaned at 6 months never a week has gone by when she has actually eaten 3 meals a day. So when she does not eat it does not really phase me, she has been putting on the same 7 pounds and loosing them again since November last year. However, she smiles though it which is the main thing I guess. Normally she would just refuse food and I believe her when she knows she does not want to eat but spitting was a whole different ball game.

Today she has eaten a dry bread roll, some raisins and a petit felous. Hey ho, we will try something with vitimins tomorrow!! Having said that, that menu was a dry bread roll, some raisins and a petiti felous more than yesterday so I am laughing really!

My bottle says finish the course, and it's a 30ml bottle.

She was eating within 1/2 hour of the first dose. I was relieved because she was so clearly hungry and just couldn't have anything in her mouth (including the spout of her sippy cup)

BlueBumedFly · 09/11/2008 21:30

Sounds the same as us, it is horrid when they seem so hungry eh? I just felt so blimin inadequate!
