Congenital hip dislocation-another question

I posted on here a couple of months ago as a problem was picked up with my daughter's hip. Thanks loads to those who replied-I feel a bit stupid now that I realise initially over-reacted to the news.

Anyway-just a little reassurance needed if possible... She has been in a Pavlik harness now for 7 weeks and we are already at the weaning stage so she may be out of it completely in 3 weeks time. I know that she will be monitored for a while and it seems that the treatment has already been very succesful (the problem was only assessed as 'Grade 2'to begin with). Just wondered if any body else has been through this-can I be fairly confident that she won't have any more problems in the future now that the harness has 'worked'? I'm just a little paranoid because I had surgery/spica casts etc when I was little (although I wasn't picked up until 18months) My daughter is now 16 weeks by the way.

I know we've been very lucky so far...

Thanks in advance!

I had this as a baby, as did my sister.

My sister's wasn't picked up until she was 1ish and she was in casts for quite a while.

Mine was picked up early and I was in and out of the casts fairly quickly.

As far as I know the earlier it is picked up, the easier it is to correct, so if the harness has worked there shouldn't be any problems in the future.

I'm guessing that treatment and diagnosis have moved on since me and my sister were treated. (late sixties/early seventies)

Itcanwait - my daughter wore the Pavlik harness for 13 weeks, and came out of it at 15 weeks old. She will continue to be monitored until she is 5 years old. However, from my own research, I believe that once the problem is 'corrected', there is no more chance of problems than any other child.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pinkjenny-sorry only just saw your post as this thread had gone to the bottom of the list last time I looked! Thanks for your support and really glad to hear your daughter's fine now. Fingers crossed all will be well for my little'un too.

I'm sure it'll be fine, it's horrible isn't it. Better than plaster casts and anaesthetic though!

Let me know what happens at your next appointment, we're back at Alder Hey for dd's annual check up in June.
