dd has a temp of 39.5, since yesterday, full of cold and chesty cough. She seems ok, for her, and i've given the usual nurofen/calpol and she has a fan in the room. Should I be concerned , She's had several febrile convulsions this year so you'd think i'd know wouldn't you but the last few months she really seems to cope alot better with illness so i'm not entirely sure whats the norm.

can you help?

at that close to 40, if the usual stuff like calpol etc has not bought the temp down, considering your daughter has had febriles before, I would go see someone to be safe if I were you. if your GP is still open call them or the out of hours doc, or if your local A+E is close by, go there. normally kids temps do go up and down far more than adults and as thier immune systems are less developed than adults, temp increase is an effective way of fighting the infection, but although the usual practice seems to be if over 40 seek help, I am over cautious with kids

Is Calpol bringing the temp down?

What is she dressed in? Have you sponged down with cool water? etc

If the temp is coming down with Calpol etc then apparently there is no real cause for concern according to the GP I saw today, you should however seek medical advice if it is not going down at all and has been up for over 24 hours. Is your DD eating? How old is she?

she's in a very light loose cotton top, she has eaten and drunk and going to the loo so all is 'normal' apart from the cold/cough and temp. I'm sure her temp will come down but it has shot up quickly. My gut feeling is she's ok, well she's singing to her dolls anyway . Just wanted other opinions and this is not the norm for us iyswim

know how you feel, my son was like this some years ago. he had a habit of getting me all worked up with his high temps. he never had a febrile when with me but apparently he had loads when with his mum (?????) there were a few times he had a temp of 40 or so but would be playing with his toys quite happily, so it was only when he lounged around or complained about the light (once he complained the light was too bright from just a small tea light candle I had going!)
if you are not worried, then have you also tried a cold towel/flannel to the nape of the neck? apparently thats the best place to bring temp down by.
