He's getting worried because he keeps guffing at school

I think it's anxiety as he only just started.

Also he gobbles his food, jumps around while eating and so on.

He keeps saying to me, 'Mummy why do I always fart?' so I explain that everyone does and it is very normal, but he said everyone heard him do it today and I wasn't sure what to advise.

I talked to him about clenching his bottom, letting it out slowly (sorry!!) and I think he understood. Also asked him to eat sitting down, slowly. So he doesn't swallow too much air.

Is there anything else I can do? Do all 5 year olds guff at school?! Poor little guy!!!

my ds does this....but has no concerns...which concerns me as they STIIIINK.

IM NOT SURE HOW MUCH WIND IS SWALLOWED.ooops sorry...i think the gas is usually produced in the gut?

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 04/11/2008 21:28

Yes, I think it prob is actually - however he doesn't have a lot of - well, beans!

He does have a fair bit of fruit though.
And a lot of peanut butter sarnies. I can't think they would cause wind.

My ds just made me throw up with the fart he did ,I do have morning sickness but it was sooo bad .

He also eats a lot of fruit and peanut butter .

God, poor you!!!

Yes anything would make me want to vom when I was pg. I couldn't go in the bathroom for some reason. Cleaning products I think, wipes - eugh.

Sorting out ds's bottom when I was pg was horrendous. I feel for you...x

S'ok everyone else found it highly amusing too except me .

I can't open the fridge door ,the dc's lunchboxes or empty the bin without puking ATM hope it stops soon .

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 04/11/2008 21:44

Oh I don't think it's funny, honestly - I had hyperemesis pretty much both times. I didn't throw up, I just felt like it the whole time. I took a lot of drugs to get through. Hope it does stop soon with you.

Thanks just hope ds stops farting near me .

Hope you get to the bottom of the wind problem too .

girlandboy · 04/11/2008 21:56

Perhaps it's a boy thing!

Dd is very lady-like and NEVER does it.
Ds is always doing it! When I comment on it (and I do from time to time) he will just smirk and say "better out than in". He's 8 by the way. I bet he does it at school as well.

UpJacobscreek · 04/11/2008 21:58

I don't know girlandboy my dd can give ds a run for his money .

ilovetochat · 04/11/2008 21:59

dd is 16 months and when she farts she says pump and pats her bum, i will video her and play it at her 18th party,

Littlefish · 04/11/2008 21:59

When I was teaching Yr 4, I had to speak to a parent and ask her to discuss farting with her ds. He used fart really badly in the classroom - it stank! I asked them to speak to their ds about it as the other children were commenting on it.

Have you tried giving him Yakult or other bio live yoghurt every day?

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 05/11/2008 06:35

oh God. I hope he isn't still doing it by year 4.

no, I don'y know if he will drink that stuff - my baby loves it well I say baby, he's 17mo. I drink it a lot lately. But will try ds1 on it, thanks for the tip!
