6 week old DS sore throat, how can I help?

my little ds has come down with a cold, didn't settle at all last night and is crying in pain when I feed him (is FF). His sniffles started a few days ago but was the only symptom so just used saline drops (which did nothing btw). And it seems to have escalated overnight to a bad cough and what I 'think' must be a sore throat. Is there anything I can give him to ease the cold? I think he's too young for calpol etc but I may be wrong, are there any home remedies? I'm just worried cuz he's not sleeping very well and I didn't sleep last night either cuz he needed comforting all the time. Is it worth a trip to the docs?

Hes so little - no doctor would mind seeing him to work out what is going on and reassure you. I hope both he and you sleep better tonight.

I've been letting him sleep on his front on my chest while watching x factor lol His breathing sounds better on his front but obv can't put him to sleep like that. I've heard making a room humid can help but how on earth can I do that?

wet towel on radiator

Put a wet towel on a warm radiator or a wide bowl of water in the room.

I agree, the doc would happily see him if you're worried. You can humidify a room by sitting a bowl of water or a damp towel on a radiator. Hope he's feeling better soon.

Hi BlueJellie.
Don't worry, but keep putting saline drops in his nose, to keep it all 'flowing', and suck it out with a nasal aspirator thing. And do not hestitate to take him to see someone as colds can rapidly turn into bronchiolitis at that age. (happened with my DS at 3 weeks). Make a room humid by hanging damp washing on the radiator or on a laundry drying rack in his room. And don't worry, he will get better, and you will forget the couple of nights when he had to sleep on your chest, trust me! (I did!)
But don't be afraid to see a doctor or to call NHS direct if you are at all worried.
Hope he gets better soon!

The towel on the radiator thing worked, felt like a rainforest in the middle of the night! He's been better today though still very whingy, but sounds like its clearing up. Unfortunately I've now caught whatever it is he's got so am feeling crap - am counting down the minutes till my DP gets home so can take some tablets and get some sleep! Thanks for your advice ladies
