Hi,

I have a 10 month old daughter who is teething at the mo. Although sometimes she has had a little redness/nappy rash for the last 2 days it has got worse. I dont think its just the teething?

Tonight she was in so much pain I could of cried for her, she couldnt even stand the cool bath. All of her bum (front and back) is bright red.

She does have sensitive skin and i can only use 1 type of baby wipe and I still mainly use water and cotton wool but it has never been like this.

What could be causing it? Plus any idea what I should do?

Thanks

xx

(make sure you keep metanium well out of reach - dd1 somehow got hold of ours when she was about 2 and plastered it all over her face, veerrrry close to her eyes and ended up in A&E - tis powerful stuff!!! - but luckily her tears had washed most of it away)

Red bum - teething - red cheeks - nappy rash
Here is my scale of creams I used

  1. sudocrem - I doubt this would make any difference if it is angry so go straight to
  2. metaneum. Just apply very thinly, almost patting it on. No need to slap it on, you just creating a barrier. Reapply every nappy change, and change nappy very frequently, or have 'nappy-off-time' which enable bum to breathe Metaneum is very drying, so if bum starts to crack/get dry, then either mix it with bit of vaseline or try my next cream, recommended by my paediatrician
  3. morhulin. Works very well too, and it's got fish oil in so it stinks, and you can slap it on, unlike metaneum

And then there's a herbal cream which I swear must have steroidal powers, which is manufactued by Verde. Think it's called Baby Soothing Balm. It stinks , and it seems to work too

And once I had to bring out the big guns when my daughter's bum so sore she got blisters, and the GP gave me Canesten HC which worked wonders, probably becuase of the Hydracortisone

Ooh Verde stuf is gorgeous, I buy their Italian Lemon Hand Cream - only stuff I know that helps the overly washed mummy-hands!

Isn't chamomile tea meant to help

Egg white is good too. No idea why.

try and avoid wetwipes when red- i tried to use after giving birth and it STANG to high heaven

i swear by bepathen cream, very easy to apply ( I find Metanium a bit harsh to wipe on and stains everything!)
