Sick of sick

My dd (6) has had 3 sickness bugs (the latest last night) since going back to school in sept - with food poisoning how soon would it be so say she starts puking at 1am is it likely or more likely to be a bug. I have hygeine issues with the school as dd is always saying loos are blocked and they have no soap but am now wondering if its a school dinner thing.

It's really hard to say for sure NZ because with food poisoning the onset of symptoms can occur as little as 6 hours or as long as 6 weeks or more after ingestion depending on what the causative organism is.

I would think successive 'bugs' is more likely - once you've had one you are more susceptible to others for a while after until your stomach gets back to normal. If it was food poisoning it should be pretty obvious in that all the children would come down with it at the same time (same causative organism). If the children are off ill in stages then it is very much more likely to be a bug.

The soap issue would really annoy me. I would definitely complain - that is ridiculous and unexcusable IMO

Hope things improve soon. Half term coming up should help stop the cycle. In the meantime see if you can boost her immunity and maybe consider some prebiotics (drinks/yoghurt etc) to help get her stomach back on track. I had this with my DDs over the summer - it's not fun is it ?

Its pants BBM - i am sure it is a bug but not helped by poor school hygiene - her little friend had same at same time - seems from talking to them loos are always blocked, no paper, no soap. I am going to ring school tomorow and also have a ring to the council about concernign standards as lots of parents have raised similar concerns.

It definitely won't be helped by it at all. How can they expect children to learn about hygiene if they don't provide the neccessities Grrrrrr...

Good on you for doing something about it I say
