Advice needed on DD's back hair

SmileyMylee · 10/10/2008 22:59

DD (8), has a noticeably hairy back. I've never mentioned this as I didn't want her to get a complex about it and at the end of the day it is natural but I admit it does look a bit strange. However something she said today has made me realise that she is aware of it and is uncomfortable with it.

Should I do something about this and if so what? or is this the start of a slippery slope that we shouldn't go down at her age.

my dd1 (8) is the same

EachPeachPearMum · 10/10/2008 23:08

I have a very downy back, and so does DD.
Is it coarse hair or down?
DH loves mine btw, always strokes it, though it is v blonde, rather than dark.
I love hers she is only 2 though

The hair is very dark but downy. Whereas the hair on her head is light brown. It reaches down to the small of her back. I now realise that this is why she never wears strappy tops and why I never have problems getting her to cover her swimsuits with UV tops.

dd 5 has this
Dunno what to do
Wait til she asks I guess...

My 3yo's the same, dark blonde hair on head and dark downy back. It went blonde this summer, though, and so far has stayed that way.

She was born with quite a lot of fuzz, some of which has disappeared but a lot is still there. I was actually hoping that it was a baby thing and would disappear when she got older, but reading about your 8yos has quashed that myth for me. My worry is that it might get coarser with puberty, what to do then? I'm quite hirsute myself but have never had a hairy back so have no first hand experience.

Did you come to any conclusions?

beansontoast · 16/10/2008 19:51

may be keep on talking to her ...about how she feels about it? if anything in particular has happened to make her feel this way?...and lavish her with reassurance? talk about how we are all different?

im putting loads of question marks in because im no expert...but i do know a couple of gorgeous furry women

DD told me that people have commented on it at school. I don't think anyone has been nasty, just curious. However I know this will happen at some point and she can't keep covered up forever.

It falls out doesn't it?

SmileyMylee · 21/10/2008 13:11

Does it fall out eventually then? Hers hasn't so far or at least not noticeably.
