does any body have experience of this and can tell me the symptoms? or their experience of this . am worried about my dd aged 3. she has been wakeing in the night crying and saying her knees hurt occasionally for the last six months, last week she had a really high temp. for 4 days - nothing else wrong ie sickness or throat infection, since then she is waking in pain every night, refusing to walk much, is whingy and constantly on the verge of tears - not herself at all. yesterday she said her knees hurt in the day which was the first time she had complained while awake. (sorry does that make sense?) today i took her to nursery in the buggy, as she has been crying whilst walking, and this afternoon we have had floods of tears and upset. she came to tell me she was hurting . i want to think that its attention seeking and a reaction to starting nursery, but something is niggling at me. took her to the emergency doctor on sunday, but he said temperatures cause aches and pains and to give her infant paracetamol. am i right to be worried?

No experience, but I would ask for a blood test from the doctor and take it from there because it seems like the aches and pains were there before the temp. You are her mum and you know best and it can't hurt can it?

Incidentally, how is she getting up from a sitting position, going up the stairs? Any facial rashes at all?

wants carrying up the stairs. sits fine, not noticed any problems ie limping or any thing. she often gets a bit spotty and her temp goes up for no apparent reason. am probably worrying for nothing - seems to be a mothers lot!!

My DD (3.9) wakes occasionally crying with pains in her knees and shins, we give her calpol and she settles more or less straight away. She very rarely complains of it during the day. I've always put it down to growing pains.

I don't think it would hurt at all to go to the doctor though given that your DD has been in pain everynight recently, and during the day - if something's niggling you then I'd trust your gut.

Good luck, I hope she has a more settled night tonight..

I know how you feel! lol

Well, I would advise you ask for a blood test -don't be fobbed off and then take it from there. Try not to worry - it is probably nothing but you won't rest until you've done this though if you are anything like me!

thanks - calpol is a godsend!! I always put it down to growing pains too. will ring the dr tomorrow - none of us are going to relax till we know shes ok.

Hi

My DD has JIA, she was finally diagnosed when she was 11 months old. I would suggest Nurofen instead of calpol as it is an anti imflammatory and will have more benefit to your daughter.

I would get it checked out, good luck x

dd had a bad night on thurs but got up yesterday fine, back to her normal cheery self. last night and tonight all is quiet. maybe it is just occasional growing pains. if it happens again will deffinately get her checked out. thanks for the advice. x

Has she had any jabs recently, one of the side effects can be arthritic type pain or inflamation.
