the previous grommet post got me thinking...

my DS (16 months) has recurrent ear infections and glue ear

I have taken him to a homeopathist and stopped dairy, unfortunately to no avail.

We are currently on about ear infection number seven. When we visit the dr a swab is taken and we are sent home with antibiotics. I really don't want this to continue not only because of his constant intake of antibiotics but I feel that by the time the ear is discharging, the damage is done and I'm worried his ears will be scarred.

DS has an ENT appointment on Monday and I'm wondering if it's worth mentioning gromments.

To be honest any other advice would be gratefully received

TIA

Little bit late but just seen this. DS just had grommet fitted last week under GA - he is 15 months. He had contracted mastoiditis as a result of previous ear infection that wasn't treated properly. If gone undetected could have caused brain abcess - symptoms were very subtle so we were lucky to spot it (watch out for sticky out ears - ones that don't match I mean, rather than jug ears in general). In summary, be very careful with ear infections, don't leave them untreated and don't worry about antibiotics - much better than brain abcess and possible death, in my opinion......

Bexie - just wondered if Tom's ENT appointment had come through?

DS2 had his grommets when he was 3 days less than one year old, exactly one year ago.

He's had GAs three times now, the first when he was 5 months old (seems like a bit of a strange statement from your PCT MIAB).

Does your DD have a hearing loss? Are they going to try hearing aids?

DS2 has hearing aids as from Friday, and honestly a GA is much less of a hassle, and if we had the choice again of HA or GA, we know what we'd go for...

All the best,
