I left DS2's til he was about 18 months old because he was always snotty.

Mammina · 07/10/2008 08:17

I left DD until she was 18 months too, she was underweight & small so I just wanted to wait until she was a bit stronger and also wanted to wait until her gut was a bit more developed. HVs used to hassle me every time I went in though

Thank you for your replies, with the season it is god knows when the snots will end, but I would feel safer to wait until then.

My DTs had colds when they were due their MMR jabs - nurse (and official nhs info) says you only need to postpone if they have got a fever as well.

pagwatch · 07/10/2008 09:23

I would never risk it if a child has any kind of a virus - and that includes a cold or the snots.
Regardless of the toss they spout about fever.
But that is just my opinion of course

DS had his last week hes 2.
ooops

also though he is just one constant cold so didnt want him to have it. he's had a reall hot bod for 3 days now so im glad i waited

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 07/10/2008 09:29

I'd wait. Tell your dh its (slightly) more likely to work if given post 15 months anyway, so there can be an advantage to waiting. The thing you really want to avoid it being given with is chickenpox, and you can't always tell if the sniffles are going to be chickenpox - therefore imo better to wait until you know your child is 100%.

thank you again for the wisdom

The only reason I delayed when they had a cold was so their immune system was on top form when they had it.

bleurgh · 07/10/2008 14:10

don't do it if they've got anything up with them, it's such a lot for them to deal with, plus it might look like a cold but it might be the start of a throat infection or something a lot more draining

you can delay it, lots of people do, just keep making more appts
