Any ideas? DD, no urine infection but...

DD is five (Yr one). Toilet trained just after two and really reliable. Never had accidents or damp pants. Dry at night by three.
Last week she had two huge accidents - wee all over the floor. Both at school, but at different times of the day. She said she didn't feel it coming, and was very upset about it. She is not easily distracted and can hold on well, so this is totally out of character. She has been saying on and off that her twinkie is sore/itchy, although it has always looked normal to me. I took her to GP who sent a urine sample off, but it came back clear.
Any ideas what could have caused it? I am assuming it has to be a physical thing as it is so unlike her...

Is she constipated? (Just a stab in the dark)

kiltycoldbum · 07/10/2008 20:40

if its sore and itchy is it anything you're using in the bath? washing powder?

GeorgeAndTimmy · 07/10/2008 20:41

Not noticeably - but then she is five and I don't closely follow her bowel habits! Could being constipated cause a wee accident then?

just aside Capri Suns make my dsd's twinkle sore or anything like that, oddly not sweeties themselves but sugary drinks!

GP told me the other day that bubble bath should be a no-no for little girls apparently it can react with a vaginal bacteria (??).

My dd had an infection and I got some Canesten to treat it. Mauybe you should go back to the GP?

GeorgeAndTimmy · 07/10/2008 20:45

Thanks for the replies btw

She sometimes says she is sore and itchy, but from the outside it looks perfectly normal. She does clutch at it sometimes (like when waiting in a queue or something), but more in a 'this feels nice' way than an 'ow' kind of a way...

We haven't changed what she uses when she has a bath or shower - it is a johnson's baby thing which she has always used .

thrush?

littlelamb · 07/10/2008 20:47

Yes I wonder if its to do with bubble bath too. I took my 4 yo dd to the doctors today as since yesterday she has been weeing every 15 minutes or so. No pain or anything, just a constant urge to go. Her sample was clear, but he did say to try and avoid things in the bath- and as my daughter has snaffled most of the Lush goodies I got for my birthday I think they may very well be the culprit.

GeorgeAndTimmy · 07/10/2008 20:48

I have wondered about thrush when she has complained about her twinkie, but the next day it is all forgotten, so have never taken it further. Could that cause the accidents?

Im not sure but it fits with the sore and itchy even if it is not sore and itchy constantly. I would check it out just in case

GeorgeAndTimmy · 07/10/2008 22:13

So, thrush? Do I take her back to GP? Can it be diagnosed externally? I suspect I would be told to 'wait and see' as per usual GP advice

Sorry I've never actually dealt with it for a child but assume to check with doctor. Only know about it for an adult. Sorry can't be more help

My dd had this sort of thing ... no urine infection but needing the loo a lot and not being able to hold on reliably. The doctor thought she had an slight vaginal infection or irritation due to an upset in the bacteria there (usually caused by not wiping poos very well - very common with young girls).
Stopped the bubble bath and put a cup of vinegar in her bath every night (Doctor said it would soothe) and it was sorted in a few days.

good tip ghosty

my dd is red and sore atm. i think it could be the copious amounts of MY bubblebath she uses!
