Will be going to docs in a while, but any ideas about this?

DS 5yrs, has redness on his face, mostly under his eyes, swollen puffy eyelids - like he has been crying for ages, a huge gland on one side of his neck, fluidy puffiness at the end of his foreskin and red skin generally around scrotum and bottom, red patch over armpit area and complains of soreness in shoulders/won't lift arms very far, vague rash over his back and a fair cough with catarrh, and generally seems to feel pretty crappy.

Things like Slapped Cheek, Mumps etc have been suggested, but don't seem quite right, and I'm almost wondering if he has 2 things - like a cold/fluey thing, plus food allergy, not that there is any history of that.

Any ideas - out of curiosity?

So glad things seem to be on the up for your ds and you. Take care.

Just wondering how things were going?
Hope things have continued to improve x

Yes thanks Wuglet, things are much better now. We are home, which is bliss, even though the staff on the ward were great.

I have to say I am staggered by the speed of DS's recovery. He looks way better than I could have imagined, even on Tuesday. He still has some sore bits which need care, but in himself he is back to being cheeky and mischievious. We have emollient cream to apply regularly while he loses the top layer of skin all over his body - to stop it cracking etc, and several more days of antibiotics.

So he looks like a lizard in full moult, and leaves a trail of skin in his wake, but that is a tiny thing to tolerate in order to have him back to himself again.

It all seems like a bad dream now, to think that such a short time ago he seemed so poorly that I couldn't imagine things getting better. It was so scary at the time, but now he is bouncing around the house again.

He has sore places on his feet still so shoes are a problem, but at this rate of recovery I can imagine him being ready for school on Monday!

Thank you all again for your kind thoughts and suggestions. What would we do without MN?

So pleased he is better.
I hear the lizard look is in this season anyway.

"What would we do without MN?" Well I would have a life more time in the evenings to watch telly spend with my DH!

For info if anyone else has the misfortune to go through this:

If the docs want to use Emla (anaesthetic) cream on your dc's skin prior to inserting a canula, do not let them put the normal Tegaderm (sp?), second skin type dressing over it while it has time to take effect. This was was done with my ds on both ankles, and a wrist, and the problem with it is that with Scalded Skin syndrome the skn is too fragile to cope with the Tegaderm being removed - and comes off with it. These are the only areas that look like they may scar sadly.
A paediatric dermatology nurse who we saw later on was rather that it had been done this way, and said that cling film should have been used instead.

Just posting here so that others may possibly be forewarned.
