Eyesight and hearing tests at school?

Interested to see that some primary schools have sight tests and hearing tests for the youngest children. Is this going to be brought in everywhere (in England)? Is it policy in the rest of the UK? It might help pick up problems young. Does your children's school have this?

This happens at our school too. If parents give their consent then their child will have their eyesight and hearing tested. The children will also be weighed and measured.

A couple of children started wearing glasses afterwards but obviously I have no idea whether this was as a result of the school tests picking up problems or whether the parents had already noticed a problem. Ds2 was flagged as needing his eyesight re-tested in 6mths time, but the re-test showed that he was fine.

Think it depends on the area. Here (surrey)eyes are tested at the hospital before kids start school but I seem to remember being told it was unusual for all kids to be tested. Hearing is done at school in year1.

they do it at our school and i was a little as i always thought their health was MY responsibility. but thank god they do as it was picked up that ds2 has a very bad vision problem and now it is has been found he is making excellent progress and his sight is tons better.
