White spots on tongue?

DD 15 months has white spots on her tongue, like her tasebuds are raised & swollen. She is dribbling copiuos amounts, soaking through a T shirt & vest in 5-10 mins. She seems happy enough in herself though was rubbing at her mouth a bit. Was making faces with every bite when having lunch as if food too hot or not enjoyable but ate it all. Nothing puts this kid off her grub though. My GP surgery closed till Tues & all I could find on NHS website was mouth ulcers which it isn't. Have some left over gel from when we had thrush when b/f. Don't know whether could be oral thrush. Do they only get that when b/f? Heard of hand, foot & mouth but don't know symptoms - nothing to see on hands or feet. Any ideas?

It sounds like thrush to me.

Does this cause the dribbling? Can't remember that from last time. Have never seen anything like it, even her trousers are soaked through.

Sjhe could also be teething though. OR it could be that the thrush is uncomfortable so she's not swallowing her saliva as she usually would.

Has she had the MMR?

Is there any chance they could be Koplik spots - an early measles symptom?

TALLULAHBELLE · 28/09/2008 20:56

Had her MMR maybe 5 weeks back & suppose reaction can be somewhat delayed. Also makes sense that she not swallowing properly cos mouth sore. Guess just keep an eye on it for now.

Take her to the GP tomorrow - they'll tell you immediately and give you any necessary treatment. I want to know, though! I'm putting money on thrush not measles

thrush?
(ok somebody else prob already said it)
took dd to dr on thurs with white spots inside her cheek, they also think either thrush or cold-sore virus.

No spots on inside of her cheeks. Is more like her tastebuds are inflamed rather than actual spots. GP closed till Tues - Sept Weekend. She had a rough night but seems perfectly happy now - I on the other hand am knacked.

Could be hand foot and mouth. That causes ulcers and spots in the mouth and it's typical to dribble a lot with it. You don't always get spots on the hands and feet with it. Sometimes spots appear on the bottom.
