Does this sound normal? Noticed something odd about DD's genitals

DD (two) has had thrush so have been applying cream and noticed when I had to part her vulva that she had what looked like two vaginal openings. She has an obvious vaginal opening then a bit of skin and then another tiny hole (more round than the vag hole).

I don't have any other girls so I have no idea if this is normal at that age (I don't have it so am wondering if it's something peculiar to little girls or just an oddity with her.) I'm a bit to ask friends.

DH said perhaps it 'defuses' for want of a better word, when she's older or when she embarks on a sexual relationship but I can't say I remember anything like that with me (having said that I wasn't very observant about my own genitals as a youngster)

Has anyone else noticed anything like this with their DD's?

Thanks, I'm a name changer BTW

i've definitely seen people on here discussing these adhesions, i think it's not massively rare. basically a wee ulcer or something on the labia seals to the other side. from what i've read, a wee bit of steroid cream on a q-tip soon separates things again. hth.

Doesn't someone on Mn have 2 vaginas?

Cadmum · 23/09/2008 21:03

I suspect that the thrush and eczema would be the more likely cause of sore bits. The baby I saw was in no discomfort whatsoever. Her mother, on the other hand was really upset and worried until MNers suggested that it might be adhesions and eventually her GP confirmed that this was the case. I am fairly certain that the adhesions were gone within weeks and have not made a reappearance.

I suppose that it could be because of creams prescribed but then what choice do you have if they are needed. The good thing if it is adhesions is that they will disappear as quickly as they appear in most cases.

As I said earlier, I hope you find out for sure soon.

I had a friend at school who used to get very heavy periods to the extent that she would pass out. When she went to the docotors about it, age 16 they found two vaginas a scan then revealed she had two uterus so essentially she was having two periods hence why so heavy. Its possible or it could be nothing. No harm in getting her checked out

Thanks again for the reassurance

a friend's dd had adhesion, with particular cause. She had to put steroid cream on regularly to break down the adhesion. If it hadn't worked, there could have been an op. But in the end, it worked well and no problems now.

Do go to GP with your concerns and he/she can check and maybe refer to consultant if a cause for concern.

Good luck.

Sorry - with no particular cause.

The idea that every child is thoroughly checked at birth is just that, an idea.
A large number (same number as cf) of children are born intersexed and with "irregular" genitalia every year. The majority of these children do not have their uniqueness found at birth but usually later by parents or upon the presentation of significantly other symptoms.
Often there is nothing at all to worry about but please go and have it checked out.

Ronaldinhio that is why I said in my 2nd sentence that personally I would go and see my HV or GP to get it checked out.

My first sentence was intended to offer some reassurance, rather than suggest that because all babies should be/are checked out that means there is no problem with the op's dd.
