What do you do if you can't get a babies temperature down?

Ds2 nearly 9 months, had a temp of 38.5 when I put him to bed 20 mins ago.
Its gone up and down all day so I've been giving him calpol and calprofen. It takes it down but it goes back up again.

He feels really hot so I've only put him to bed in a nappy.

I think its to do with teething as one of his top teeth is coming through and he has also had diorreah (sp) today.

Should I be bothered if I cant get the temp down?
I know its not massively high but I've always been told anything over 37 is a high temp.

Thank you, I feel reassured and calmer now. His temperature has come down slightly and he has had a poo too!

Hope your LO is ok now greedygirl.

I went to check on ds last night and the temp had gone up to 39 so I dosed him again.
He wasnt floppy but he was quite happy to just lay in my arms and be.
I let him sleep in his nappy and he slept all night which he does not do, so he's obviously not well.

He still feels very hot today and has a temp of 38 so I'll keep on with the calpol and ibuprofen.
I never used to get bothered about temps with my other 2 until my friends dd had a fit from a temp and since then its always in the back of my mind.

Thank you all for your advice.

The risk of fitting is why baths are not recommended any more - imagine a fitting baby in water - so spongeing them down is less dangerous.

Do actually let a baby in a bath on their own? When my son was a baby I used to physically hold him while he was in the water whether he was well or not.

It does get easier as they get older. I can talk to my six year old and get his opinon whether he wants calpol, iprofran, medised, benylin or what ever medication. Generally the amound of medication depends on his mood rather than necessarily his temperature.

He's still got a temp
But I can see his other top tooth pushing through and he still has diorreah, so I definately think its all connected.

He's not poorly in himself and has been happily playing and crawling.
The only thing is that he wont eat but I'm just giving him milk.

Nbq - hope that tooth comes through soon and your LO's temp comes down. The worst temp my LO ever had was related to a tooth coming through. I found out what the matter was the other night - at 3a.m. he was spectacularly sick all over me! Thankfully he improved after that and is back to normal now.
