we are planning out bed times around the nightly vomiting its the same every time she gets a cough (which is a lot) the doctor treats me like I'm stupid for bringing her in with a little cough as she is pretty much ok during the day but at night she (and the rest of us) can't get any sleep for coughing which eventually leads to vomitting.

I'm giving her medised which does help a little but there must be something else I can do for her.... cough meds seem to make no difference. I've raised the head of her bed bed but she throws herself around so much I don't have much confidence that i've raised her head rather than her feet.

please help! I'm cracking up due to sleep deprivation!

They don't use a peak flow for children under about 7 as far as I know. Dd2 is 8 and has never had hers done.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) can cause severe coughing leading to vomitting EVEN if they have been vaccinated against it. Takes about three months to go away.

also undiagnosed bronchiolitis can leave a lasting cough... some of the docs we have seen have wondered if this was the case. Might be worth insisting on a paediatric/chest consultation if your GP is not being helpful?

I used to get this but it was a dairy allergy. I used to cough and coungh until i threw up. mainly at night. It my dad ages for them to work out what was wrong with me. Because it was worse some days than others. (days i'd had more dairy not that they knew that was what it was at the time)

i grew out of it at 7.

Hope she feels better soon and you get to the bottom of what's causing it.

My dad said that it took ages for the dr.s to work out what was wrong with me. That should have read.

thanks for all you comments. tonight I have repositioned her once sleeping so that her head is elevated. put karvol in the room. and put vapour rub on her feet (she thinks I am mad for that one!) I have also increased the time between evening milk and bed and given her main meal at lunchtime with a light tea. I should know in an hour if its had any effect.

her chest has been very rattly today so I'm hoping its a cold...

I have a humidifier but its on long term loan to my asthmatic friend who just left for spain. I'm hpoing things will be better in 2 weeks when she gets back so I don't need to retrieve it!

so far dd has had/has eczema, hay fever, silent reflux, chronic constipation, multiple ear infections and has delayed speech. oh and a very bad allergic reaction to penicillin. Dairy intolorance is reguarly mentioned and ruled out but I have her on goates milk as I feel this at least cuts the number of ear infections. she has had a couple of instances of tempory dairy intolorace after vomiting bugs but they were pretty obvious milk in = milk out situations.
