Just looking for advice my 16 year old has just told me tonight she has been bleeding from her bum when she has a poo and has gone 10-15 times a day since Saturday. She was an away with school and too embarrassed to tell the teachers. The blood isn’t there all the time but it’s gotten more and more painful as the days go on. She’s bloated and has some tummy pain around her belly button.

I’ll get a doctors appointment tomorrow

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

And if you don’t get one of you tell them what you’ve said here… A&E

Personally I’d be ringing 111 tonight. I’d be concerned there was some sort of rupture or even appendicitis which can present as a severe upset stomach in some people. Obviously the more common causes may be Ibs, Crohn’s and colitis etc and you’d need longer term investigations for those but this sounds quite acute and worrying so if it was my child I’d not be waiting till tomorrow.

I think I will try 111 she seems okay ish in her self. I’ve given her some Anusol cream thinking maybe it’ll help. It’s the bleeding and the pains worry me

Please take her to A&E to be reviewed by the colorectal team - this needs sorting out sooner rather than later and a GP is likely to need to refer to them anyway which they would likely do on a 2ww pathway (because of the bleeding) but A&E would be quicker I would be there now. I hope all is ok ❤️

Given the timescale, the most likely reason is a really nasty tummy bug, but she will need a sample sending to the lab as some forms of bacterial gastroenteritis can need monitoring for specific side effects, or for other ones very occasionally antibiotics. If it drags on, inflammatory bowel disease becomes a possibility. A stool sample for calprotectin can show inflammation, but is also raised in infections, so probably too soon to do one. 2 week wait stuff is very unlikely in this age group.

The short version is diarrhoea with some blood, GP tomorrow should be fine. Lots of blood with some diarrhoea is A&E tonight. And the risk that this is something nastily infectious means she needs not to go to school/college.

Is it dripping blood or just a smear? Could she have a fissure?
Id take her to A and E is it's more than a smear

We are going to see the night GP at 11:45 tonight. The blood is a lot or was a lot on Tuesday night. She said it was dripping out and the tissue is wiped off the floor to clean the blood. She’s allowed me to look there’s a large golf ball lump hanging out

sounds like piles.

Your poor daughter, she must feel so upset / frightened. Sure it won’t be anything sinister but totally right to get it checked asap

Your poor daughter. How did the appointment go? It sounds like a prolapse or very severe piles.

Lbet · 02/10/2026 10:44

As you said the blood was dripping it does very much sound like piles, you don’t have bleeding with a prolapse.

MegSpackers · 02/10/2026 12:41

They have referred her for a camera she now has haemorrhoids but the doctor is worried there is internal bleeding but thinks it may of stopped. If it starts we need to take her to Accident and Emergency over the weekend. She is still pooing 2 or 3 times an hour I don’t understand how she has anymore left in her.

the doctor did say a bath to wash her bum after every poo but she can’t live in the bath each time I got baby wipes to maybe be less pain than loo roll

Has she been able to go to school?
They have referred her for a colonoscopy and they’re worried she maybe having internal bleeding (a serious medical emergency)?!

MegSpackers · 02/10/2026 18:37

No I kept her off today she’s exhausted she’s had a poo 14 times so far today. The blood has stopped but she has a lot of pain afterwards and the baby wipes are helping. They said she’s low risk for anything serious but we are very worried. Goggle has scared me more
