My daughter is 14, she has woke up with a rash on her face. I will talk to the Gp tomorrow but in the meantime wondered if anyone has any ideas as to
what it can be and any ideas as to what I should put on it. Thanks in advance

Does she have NO other symptoms?

tske A photo and ask ChatGPT, ime it’s good at correctly identifying rashes. Obviously also seek medical advice, and if it says it’s bubonic plague take it with a pinch of salt.

I would take an antihistamine and if it gets better, it’s some kind of allergy. It doesn’t look worth going to the doctor about, pharmacists are good at this stuff.

i took her pharmacist yesterday morning, and he said because its on the face they are limited as to
what they can give and prefer if we went to see the Gp. He suggested Piriton and thats what we've been using since yesterday.

If she has no other symptoms or discomfort then I'd do precisely nothing. It will either go away or she'll get additional symptoms that will help a diagnosis.

The picture did not show anything dramatic.

purpleme12 · Yesterday 09:19

From the picture it looks like something that will go away very quickly

So I wouldn't do anything at this point. Obviously if you want to you can give her antihistamine.

Agree with this.
i got a rash on the side of my arm yesterday. No idea what from, it’s gone down a bit today. But I’m not rushing off to the GP.

AnnaMagnani · Yesterday 09:21

Honestly I'd be ignoring that. Been there such a short time and no other symptoms at all.

superspideysense · Yesterday 09:23

Prob touched something and rubbed her nose and it’s reacted a bit. I wouldn’t worry unless it gets significantly worse.

antihistamine and if it’s really dry maybe some basic moisturiser like e45?

id suggest she doesn’t put make up on it. Just leave it alone. I wouldn’t see a GP unless it gets lots worse. It will waste their time. Give the antihistamines a bit longer as they can take a while to get in the system properly.

not a dr btw. Just have sensitive skin and used to random little rashes!

Thank you very much for your help, I wasnt too concerned only asked the pharmacist when i went to collect my own meds. It was his reaction that made me worry. Thanks feel better 💐

Probably sweat or something has irritated it. I'm not sure I'd even register this on my face. Just remind her not to mess with it to avoid irritating further.

The pharmacist assumed you were worried otherwise you wouldn't have asked. He also makes money everytime he sells something.

Also no-one should be using branded Piriton anymore - it costs pennies to get the unbranded stuff plus at 14 she can use modern anti-histamines that are more effective and don't cause drowsiness. Pharmacist just wanted to make a sale out of a consultation where he was out of his depth.

Thanks for that, I shall keep in mind. Much appreciated

I think pharmacists also have to cover themselves so was easy to recommend the piriton. And even if it’s nothing, it is still a rash and probably irritating her. Plus at 14 it might bother her. So there’s nothing wrong with asking for advice!!

just keep and eye on it but it will hopefully reduce over the coming days. The heat and high pollen maybe causing her skin to be more reactive.

DressDespair · Yesterday 10:29

OP I always reach for hydrocortisone cream as a first step. It’s available over the counter. Try a small amount to see if it helps.

Yeah, she has confidence issues as she already has acne issues aswell.
Im also going abroad to see my father who is not very well so my anxiety is heightened too, so for some I may seem crazy and irrational but I would rather take something with me for her if gets worse out there. Thanks for your kind message.
