Has anyone’s child had strange tongue sensations and sudden rapid heartbeat?

Hi my 11 year old son has had two strange episodes in the past week and I’m a little concerned as the episodes were quite scary. I’m wondering if anyone had ever experienced anything like this. Given this is his second one I’m worried what’s causing this, Both times he has said he initially has a strange feeling in his tongue, he said it felt like it was out from his mouth. But also described the sensation as stringy… like the bottom under part of his tongue, he felt like it had all went stretchy. Both times his heart rate went through the roof c150 bpm. The first time we did seek medical attention as I couldn’t drop his heart rate after the tongue episode. They put him on an ecg and gave him an IV bag of fluid and paracetamol, They identified a fever and treated it which dropped the heart rate. I’m not sure if the fever really had anything to do with what he was experiencing. But they didn’t check the tongue thing really. The same now has happened again and I feel the tongue thing has caused some sort of panic response. Ive just managed to calm his heart rate down and will hopefully get him a GP appointment in the morning, but has anyone heard of this or experienced anything similar, I’m at a complete loss.

They can result from allergy, anxiety, dehydration, or nutritional deficiencies.

Make sure he is well hydrated and maintains good electrolyte balance. Coconut water, milk, fruit juices, and smoothies are high in electrolytes, bananas are also good.

First thought was allergic reaction. I would make an appointment with your GP. You don’t want to fuck around with that sort of thing.

Some seizures are associated with abnormal sensation in the tongue or mouth
Tachycardia also common with a seizure.
Worth discussing with GP.
