Blood when wiping.

DS8 was constipated for about a week, which was followed by diarrhea. I've just noticed when wiping him this morning that there was a bit of blood on the tissue.

He seems fine. But I've made an appointment with the GP. I'm just doubting myself and wondering if this is something more urgent?

When is the GP appointment? Why do you wipe him? Not asking in a judgemental way, I’m wondering if there are additional needs that may mean he couldn’t tell you if in pain etc

frenchnoodle · 02/07/2026 12:55

Monday.
No additional needs that stop him verbalising pain or anything like that.

Bumping this up, just in case anyone has advice.

He’s probably just tore his bum hole cos it’s his first bowel movement in a week. It’s common when constipated. I wouldn’t worry about it. You’re doing the right thing to get him checked out.

Thank you, I did have a quick look but couldn't see any cuts.

Could be in a crease or even internal (anal fissure)

frenchnoodle · 03/07/2026 16:51

That very well could be it. He's not on any pain so I'm not too worried.

He has a tear inside, so you were correct, It should clear up on its own.

Thank you for reassuring me.

Glad it’s nothing serious!

LatteLady · 06/07/2026 22:06

Just to say… it is not as worrying if it is bright red as 9/10 it will be low down and a tear… if it is dark and choc brown in colour, that is the time to get to your GP. Really pleased you have been reassured.

frenchnoodle · 06/07/2026 23:23

It is bright and very noticeable on the paper, I had thought a small tear wouldn't have produced as much blood, but apparently it can, it worried me.
No pain or discomfort and I've been told it should heal on its own.
It may come back if he gets constipated again, so we need to try and prevent it as much as possible.

Lots of water! Is he eating too much fibre and not drinking? Too much fibre + not enough liquid = concrete

frenchnoodle · 07/07/2026 08:39

It's hard to know how much he's drinking especially at school, but I will try and up the intake.

Thank you for that tip, unfortunately the tear is inside so not visable.

Wipe him using wet wipes instead of paper, it will sting a lot less and be more comfortable.

That you. He's actually healing nicely, there is far less blood now.
He never actually had much pain which is what worried me when mi first noticed.
